This church in Hutchinson, Kansas was built in 1929, along with the prayer and dedication of its Christian Science members, most notably at that time, Mrs. Laura Yackley. It still provides a dignified and rarified atmosphere for weekly Sunday services and Wednesday testimony meetings. Visitors are welcome to hear the weekly Bible Lesson read by two readers elected each year by the membership. The same weekly Bible lesson is read in Christian Science services around the world. Services are one hour and include a vocal solo, silent prayer and the Lord's Prayer. A Christian Science service is simple and unassuming. Its mission is to "reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing." Mary Baker Eddy founded the Christian Science church in 1879 in Boston.
