I would agree with the other review. Although the customer service reps are great in Plainfield, I closed out my account with First Merchants because of the increased time-consuming paperwork involved with everything. I applied for a mortgage with First Merchants and it took twice as long to complete as a previous mortgage with Lincoln Bank. I must say I'm glad my mortgage was sold to another lending institution. Right now I'm having trouble with the typing of this review because the screen keeps jumping so that I can't see what I'm typing. Typical quality from a substandard bank. ...read more

I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am with my banking experience since First Merchants bought out Lincoln Federal. FM online banking is inconvenient, cumbersome and boring. I've banked online with Lincoln Federal and ING for many years with very good experiences throughout, but First Merchants has been more trouble than it's worth. I've been locked out of my account several times usually on weekend or after hours when no one is available to help. And tonight I'm yet to be able to get their "24 hour" telephone banking number (posted on their web page) to answer the phone so I can simply confirm a balance. I would bank somewhere else if it were not for the fact they inherited my mortgage from Lincoln Federal and I don't want the hassle of refinancing. Although much more of their poor service and rude attitude and I may move my mortgage to a more professionally managed and higher quality firm. The tellers are great at Plainfield!
