Day 1 Arusha – Tarangire National Park After breakfast, our team will meet you at your accommodation in Arusha and you will be given a thorough and informative briefing on the upcoming safari. Thereafter you will start your journey in our safari vehicle. An approximate 3.5 hour drive will take you to the Tarangire National Park. Here, our mobile explorer camp has already been set up for you in a remote wilderness area. You will arrive just in time for a hot lunch, prepared by our highly-skilled safari chef. After lunch, your guide will take you on a game drive through the Tarangire National Park. He will open the roof of the vehicle, allowing you unspoilt views. You will enjoy an extensive game drive before returning to your mobile explorer camp. Here a hot bush shower is waiting and you will be treated to another freshly prepared meal before you retire to your tent with real linen and real beds. Lunch; Dinner Day 2 Tarangire National Park In the morning you are awaken by the sounds of the African bush, followed by a sumptuous breakfast. Thereafter you leave the camp for a full day game drive in the park. The Tarangire National Park is especially famous for its ancient baobab trees and large elephant herds that can often be seen up close. But the park is also home to different types of gazelles and antelopes, buffaloes, giraffes and a wide variety of birds. With a bit of luck you might even spot a leopard or cheetah. For lunch you may return to the private campsite and enjoy a cooked meal or stop en-route to indulge in a pre-packed lunchbox. In the afternoon you will continue your game drive during which you will enjoy the beautiful sites and amazing wildlife. In the early evening you will return to your camp where a hot supper will be served. End off the day at the camp fire, reliving your memorable day. Soon after, you will return to your tent for a well-deserved rest. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Day 3 Tarangire National Park – Lake Manyara National Park In the morning you will enjoy a hearty breakfast before you say goodbye to your safari chef and the rest of the camp crew as they head back to Arusha. You will continue your journey with the safari guide. Today’s route takes you through the Tarangire National Park to the Lake Manyara National Park. The alkaline Lake Manyara covers over half the surface of the park and attracts flamingos and other waterfowls as well as more than 400 different bird species. But other animals such as giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, impalas, monkeys and baboons are also often spotted here. You will leave the park in the late afternoon and make your way to the Kirurumu Manyara Tented Lodge. After some time to freshen up, you will have dinner at the lodge. Thereafter you will return to the Lake Manyara National Park for a night game drive, to spot nocturnal wildlife – not to be missed. After approximately 3 hours you will be back at Kirurumu Manyara Tented Lodge for your overnight stay. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Day 4 Lake Manyara Area – Mto wa Mbu cultural programme – Lake Eyasi Breakfast is enjoyed at the lodge before you head off to the multi-cultural town of Mto wa Mbu. Here you will be met by a local guide who will give you a short briefing on the upcoming tour – exploring the village and its surroundings on foot. During your experience you will witness traditional wood carvers as well as local artists at work. After a traditional African lunch you leave this lively town and continue your journey to Lake Eaysi. For the adventurous, there is the option to skip the Mto wa Mbu cultural programme and join a quad bike tour from Karatu to Lake Eyasi (optional and at additional cost – please contact our consultants for more information). Either way, you will arrive at the Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge in time for dinner and your overnight stay. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Day 5 Hadzabe, Datoga and blacksmith cultural experience – Karatu After breakfast, a true African experience awaits. You will visit the Hadzabe, an ethnic minority and one of Tanzania’s last hunter-gatherer tribes. They have managed to maintain their traditional lifestyle until this day in this dry and mostly barren area. Thereafter you will pay a visit to the pastoral nomads and herdsmen, known as the Datoga tribe. The experience is completed with a stop at the blacksmiths where you will witness craftsmen in rather rudimentary working conditions. After this interactive cultural experience you will continue to Karatu, where you will arrive in the afternoon. The day ends with dinner and an overnight stay at the Ngorongoro Farm House. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Day 6 Karatu – Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park You enjoy an early breakfast at sunrise before you leave Karatu to make your way to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will soon reach the crater rim from where you can enjoy the stunning views of the massive caldera. From here, a steep winding road takes you down into the crater where you will witness fantastic wildlife and beautiful scenery. The crater is home to a large diversity of birds and mammals including the ‘Big Five’ – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. For lunch you will stop at a beautiful viewing spot and enjoy a pre-packed lunch. With a lot of new photos you will exit the crater in the afternoon and continue your journey to the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is Tanzania’s largest national park and probably best known for the yearly migration of hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras. You will reach your accommodation in the late afternoon and after you have had some time to relax, you will enjoy dinner. You will spend the night at the Kati Kati Tented Camp in the central Serengeti. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Day 7 Serengeti National Park In the morning you will have breakfast before you leave the camp for a full day game drive in the Serengeti National Park. Although the migration might be the main attraction for many visitors, the diversity of habitats and landscapes will make an impression. Animals that can be spotted include predators such as lions and leopards as well as antelopes, giraffes, zebras, hippos and elephants. Alternatively you can join a balloon safari in the early morning (optional and at additional cost – please contact our consultants for more information) where you will enjoy the views of the Serengeti plains from the sky. The balloon safari is followed by a bush breakfast after which you will join your safari guide for the game drive. After an eventful day, you will once again return to the Kati Kati Tented Camp for dinner and your overnight stay. 6 Day Kilimanjaro Trekking Tour + 2 nights hotel stay The slightly more demanding Machame Route is regarded as one of the most beautiful and rewarding routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. This route, with its steep passages and higher altitudes, offers you occasional views of Mount Meru, Shira Ridge and Kibo summit as you make your way through lush rainforest, moorland and alpine desert. The nights will be spent in tents. Day 1 Kilimanjaro Airport – Arusha Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be greeted by our transfer driver and taken to Usa River on the outskirts of Arusha, where you will be dropped off at the Green Mountain Lodge. The day can be spent relaxing at the hotel pool or trying out the local restaurants in Arusha (taxi ride necessary). You will have your briefing in preparation for your upcoming trek in the afternoon, followed by dinner and your overnight stay. Dinner Day 2 Arusha – Machame Gate (1,790 m) – Machame Camp (3,010 m) After breakfast you will be taken to the entrance gate of Kilimanjaro National Park. While your guide takes care of the registration forms, you can take the time to take in the surrounding area, read the information boards and watch the mountain crew prepare for the climb. Embarking on your trekking adventure, you will soon be immersed in the cool rainforest with lush green mosh and lichen carpeting the ground and tall trees and ferns sheltering you from the sun. In the branches you might spot the black and white colobus monkeys watching you curiously as you walk past. In about 5 to 6 hours, you will reach the Machame Camp, situated 3,010 m above the tree line, where you will enjoy your evening meal and overnight stay in tents. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Day 3 Machame Camp (3,010 m) – New Shira Camp (3,845 m) You will continue with your ascent, leaving the rainforest behind and entering the moor and heathland. On your way to New Shira Camp (3,845 m), you will enjoy spectacular views of the mountain range. In the mid-afternoon you will finally reach your destination where you can enjoy a view of the sun glistening against the rock face and glacier of Kibo. Overnight at New Shira Camp. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Day 4 New Shira Camp (3,845 m) – Lava Tower (4,640 m) – Barranco Camp (3,960 m) A 700 m climb is on the agenda for today, with your final destination only slightly higher than the night before. This will allow your body to become accustomed to the altitude changes, as a height of over 4,500 m will be reached over the following days. Your trek begins with an ascent above the Shira Plateau in the direction of the Lava Tower (4,640 m). The surrounding vegetation becomes more sporadic as the landscape changes to an alpine desert. The route stretches through the sweeping Barranco Valley, with its lobelia and giant senecio plants, and in approximately 6 to 7 hours, you will arrive at the Barranco Camp, the most beautiful camp on the mountain. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Day 5 Barranco Camp (3,960 m) – Barafu Camp (4,640 m) Today you will climb the “Barranco Wall”, where a steady hold will be needed. Luckily a helping hand is never far behind and your guides will assist you wherever necessary. You will make your way across the ridge, whilst enjoying wonderful views of the Kibo’s south glacier. In the Karanga Valley you will stop for lunch, before embarking on another 2 to 3 hours climb to Barafu Camp (4,640 m). At the camp you will enjoy a well-deserved break, evening meal and an early night. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Day 6 Barafu Camp (4,640 m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,080 m) At around midnight, you will be awoken with a hot tea and light snack before you start your climb to Uhuru Peak. Ascending in the dark, with only a headlight to shine the way, you will climb the screes of Kibo, reaching Stella Point in about 5 to 7 hours. Walking along the crater ridge you will finally reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) high above the clouds. On the “Roof of Africa” you will enjoy a 360° view over the surrounding landscape before starting your descent along the same route. Just before midday you will arrive at Barufu Camp, where you will have a warm meal and relax before continuing another 1 to 2 hours to Mweka Camp (3,080 m). Here you will have your evening meal and sleep with the sights of Mount Kilimanjaro still fresh in your mind. On this 6-day camping safari, you will explore four of Tanzania’s northern nature reserves. Apart from the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will also visit the Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Park. You will see swamps and savannah, huge herds of elephants and a crater full of game. Day 1 Arusha – Tarangire National Park After breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up and driven to the Tarangire National Park, a huge park roughly the size of a small country. Savannah, baobab trees and seasonal swamps dot the park’s landscape, providing nourishment and shelter for hartebeests, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, various antelopes and over 550 bird species. The park prides itself on its large elephant herds, for which the park is famous for, and has become one of the best places in East Africa to see them. These large mammals have become accustomed to the sound of the safari vehicles allowing for closer observation. After an extensive game drive you will travel to a campsite just outside of the park for your overnight stay. Lunch; Dinner Day 2 Tarangire Area – Serengeti National Park Today you will set out on your journey through the lush highlands where corn, coffee and wheat grown, to travel to the Serengeti National Park. Serengeti, named by the indigenous Masai people, means “endless plains”, which is easy to see once the grassy savannah stretches out before you with no end in sight. The landscape is dotted by kopjes, bizarre rock formations, on which predators often are found surveying the region in search of their prey. The Serengeti is home to the largest animal migration in the world and depending on the season you will be able to witness thousands of wildebeest and zebras trekking through the Serengeti and Masai Mara Game Reserve in search for food. In the late afternoon you will arrive at your campsite in the Seronera Valley, where you will stay the night. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Day 3 Serengeti National Park The entire day is set aside for more game drives in the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is the habitat for an abundance of wildlife, such as impalas, buffalo, crocodiles and hippos, but is more well-known for its great migrating herds of zebras and wildebeest. The animals’ trek is determined by the rainfall and varies from year to year. In November and December the animals move from the northern region, dominated by woodlands and hills, to the grassy plains of the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June, they return to the north. Apart from the migrating herds, you might have the chance to see predators, such as leopards, cheetahs and lions, always lurking close by. The night will be spent at a campsite in the Seronera Area. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner Day 4 Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area After an early breakfast you will head out for another game drive in the Serengeti. You might be able to spot the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – before embarking on your journey to the Ngorongoro Crater. The animals roam freely through the unfenced reserves offering you an uninterrupted game viewing experience. This UNESCO world heritage site, formed millions of years ago, is 610 m deep and covers roughly around 260 square kilometres. Due to its dense animal population of approximately 25 000, the crater offers the best game viewing of all the parks in Tanzania. In matter of minutes you will be able to see wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, elephants and some of the more than 500 bird species in the area. With a little bit of luck you might catch a glimpse of the endangered black rhino horns, peeking through the grass. After lunch you will ascend the steep walls of the crater and head to the multi-cultural village of Mto wa Mbu, situated close to Lake Manyara National Park, for your overnight stay at a campsite.
