Geo-Thermal is Efficient
We know from recent events that energy costs are going to increase. Oil, natural gas and coal are non-renewable energy forms. This means that every day there is less of these forms of energy. Meanwhile, the population of the planet continues to increase. This means more and more people competing for energy derived from resources that diminish with each passing moment. This means that energy will continue to increase in cost. Did you know that there is enough energy from the sunlight that hits the earth each day to power the world for one year? It's true. And one good way to harness that energy is through geo-thermal heating and cooling systems. These systems use the stable temperature of the earth to provide energy for heating and cooling in a way that is very efficient. As an example, you may have a heating and cooling system that is anywhere from 60% to 100% efficient. Geo-thermal installations are 400% to 500% efficient. How you ask? With a traditional heating and cooling system, the best you can do is to take one BTU of energy from the utility and turn it into 1 BTU of heat or cooling. This would be 100% efficient and pretty good I might add. With a geo-thermal system, you take 1 BTU from the utility and you get 3-4 BTUs from the earth. This is not magic nor are we creating energy. We are simply tapping the energy from the earth that was previously absorbed from sunlight. Residential renewable energy installations like Geo-Thermal qualify for a tax credit of 30% of the cost of the project with no cap on the project cost or credit. Renewable energy tax credits expire December 31st, 2016 so you still have time to plan for installing this type of equipment.
