Staying Fit and Safe In The Summer

Living in the Midwest, we get to enjoy all the seasons. Recently, we've been "enjoying" the summer heat. Those who like to get their workout in outdoors need to give a little extra thought to being safe. A personal trainer can help you get the most out of your workouts as well as provide advice for staying safe. Here are a few tips: Take Time To Acclimate It might be a little late for this advice, but just in case. Many in the Indianapolis area take their workouts inside during the winter months. the temperature in those environments tends to be comfortable, probably in the 70's. If you jump straight from that routine to working out in 90 degree temps, you can expect fatigue to set in much faster. Be patient with yourself. Take it easy for a couple of weeks until your body has had time to adjust. Avoid High Noon If you're exercising outside, try morning or evening. No need to prove anything by doing it at the hottest time of the day. Be smart. Dress Cool Thinking fabric, not style. Cute isn't bad, but what counts is clothing that will help cool your body. Get rid of that cotton and get your wick on. Drink. Drink. Drink. We're talking water, not beer or soda. Few are the people who overdue it. Most of us don't take in enough water to begin with. If you're performing strenuous exercise (or work) in the heat, even the cooler mornings or evenings, you need to stay hydrated. Throughout the summer it's probably a good idea to be sipping on some water throughout the day. Don't wait 'til minutes before your run to pump yourself full of liquid. That's not going to help much.
