DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS SHELTER About 9 months ago we adopted a kitten from the PetSmart in Avon that uses this shelter, she was a healthy kitten with no issues. At the time we didn;t have any problems other then getting the rabbies tag. It took me several calls to get it mailed to me. We decided to add another cat to our family and went back to look at the kittens again. My childern fell in love with the kitten that was marked as being 7 months old so we decided to take him home. We followed up with the first free visit to a vet on the paperwork provided before going to our own vet. At the time of the visit I was told that the cat was not "healthy". As they began to check the kitten over; the vet began by saying the kitten was not 7 months old but at least 1 year old maybe a bit older. I thought to myself, OK simple mistake.... but that is just the beginning. As the check continues, they find that one of the cat's adult teeth is about ready to fall out. And point blank stated that it would need to be removed. They went on to say that the cat's coat was not in good shape either. Overall the cat has had a "rough" life. At that point I explained that we had an appointment with our own vet to have the cat declawed (I know some think this is wrong, but it's our choice) and asked if that would be an issue and was told that would not be an issue. The day of the surgery out vet called to say we had lost the cat. After doing a full exam it was found that the cat had a heart/ lung defect. After being hit by a ton of bricks (we had only had the cat 4 days) I called South Side and spoke with Rosie: explained what had happened and wanted to know if there was any kind of guarantee since we had not even had the cat a full week. Her words to be was she was heart broken and there would not be a guarantee since I killed him by having him declawed. I tried to explain that he was not a healthy cat (proven by not 1 but 2 vets) and she started yelling at me stating that he was a very healthy 7 month old and nothing was wrong with him. I tried to explain that the vet on her approved list painted a different picture and in fact he was a year old or more. Basically stated that vet didn't know what they were talking about. She then went on to say (in a nasty voice and yelling) that she needed to see a letter from my vet and demanded to know who my vet was. After I explained that a full exam was done after the cat passed, she told me that I shouldn't believe my vet and he was the one that killed him. At that point I told her that she was the most disrespectful person and I would never recommend South Side Animal Shelter to anyone. I can not believe how she talked and treated me. I had just lost a new pet and was trying to figure out how we were going to explain this to our 7 year old daughter. I also made sure that her partners at PetSmart and the vet on her recommend list were notified on how she not only treated me but how she talked badly about them as well. After that call I did some research and found out that I'm not the only one that saw the true of Rosie. I just wish I would have found out first before putting my daughter though this. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SHELTER AND WILL BE POSTING THIS INFORMATION TO ALL SITES ASKING FOR REVIEWS ON THIS SHELTER. ...read more
