Bad decision will doom this place. Stand in line 20 minutes to order. Stand in another line to pick up. Want another beer? Stand in line again! Too much work.... ...read more

Briar & Bean Smoke Shop

2.0

By Jim Conyers

A recent visit to the local Briar & Bean Smoke shop came after several comments peaked my interests to the point of a visit. I am an occasional tobacco user, usually only frequenting aromatic tobaccos on special occasions. When entering the B&B, I was met with a rather lack luster welcome. Upon reviewing the selection of cigars and pipe tobaccos, I settled on a Vanilla Gold, a sweet smelling aromatic. After checking out and settling in to enjoy my purchase I quickly discovered the tobacco wasn't at all what I had hoped it to be. It packed easy, and stayed well lit, but the room note was disappointing as well as the taste on the pallet. The after taste lingered like a cheap cigar. Maybe a different blend will yield better results. ...read more

Penny Lane Coffee House

1.0

By Natalie

My boyfriend and I went to Penny Lane this evening and were utterly disappointed in the costumer service. We are from Boonville and drove all the way from there to this coffee house. I'm 21 years old and the lady working talked to me as if I were a 13. My boyfriend went up to order togo coffee for his parents back in Boonville. After he asked if he could order something she said, "Well we close in like 2 minutes but I guess." So, she made the coffee and as we were gathering up our cups to leave, she said while raising her voice for all to hear in the coffee house: "Um for future reference, this isn't StarBucks, we make $2 an hour so for future reference, we expect you to tip your waiter." No.1: How in any way did she "wait" on us? We received to go cups once we got there, sat down for 10 then got up to order drinks to go; it's not like she made us something and brought it to us. No.2: If tipping is required there should be a sign saying so. We will certainly never be back. ...read more

THE STORY OF TIN MAN'S BEERS

Background I have been involved in the craft brewing industry for a long time and am hopelessly captured by everything it embodies. I often tell people that brewing is the only thing I have ever done that truly makes me resonate. You see, I am bifurcated as a person. I am split between the scientist and the artisan. I am methodical and precise. In fact, I wanted to be a scientist when I was a kid. I thought a microscope was the coolest thing in the world, but it never held the answer to all of my desires. I needed to create. I needed to use my intuition to make sense out of the world, and that never really served me well in the scientific world. Yet brewing beer has equal parts of both - and that is why I am a brewer.  The State of the Industry I love beers of all styles and from all countries. There is value in most beers out there ranging from a sipping beer on a cold night to a sweet beer paired with an awesome burger. However, I have noticed that recently there seems to be an unbalance in the consumption of beers in the craft industry. People are going out of their way to get the biggest, hoppiest, booziest bombs they can get their hands on - with almost no regard for the tradition of beer. Now don’t get me wrong, those beers have their place and they can be delicious, but that is only a part of the essence of craft beer. I did not want our main line of beers to be this kind of beer. They only appeal to a few and usually come paired with an elitist mentality - which I think is opposite what beer really is. Beer should be for everyone. People who love beer, people who don’t think they love beer (but really just don’t know what it is), men, women, young, old - everyone!  Tin Man Series’ I wanted to make a number of different series of beers at Tin Man so that we could appeal to as many people as we could. The first of the lines is our main series, which we internally call the “Converter Series”. This series is designed specifically to teach people who don’t know beer about what craft beer is, but also still be flavorful and great examples of their styles which appeals to the craft beer lover. The very next series that we will bring out embodies the true spirit of Tin Man. It will be known as the “Apprentice Series”. We want everyone to know about beer so this series is open to anyone who works at Tin Man or Gunslinger’s BBQ (our food vendor). They will have the opportunity to brew any beer they can dream up on our test system and it will be sold only in the Tin Man tasting room. The third series will be the “Master’s Series”. In this series we will brew bigger and more contemporary styles like Wheatwines, Imperial anything, Barrel Aged awesomeness. After these series come to life, we hope to have a wide range of offerings to suit every palette. It is our goal to have all of these series out by the end of the first year. We have a few other series on tap but you will have to wait to find out what those are ;)  Conclusion Many people have come to Tin Man expecting to get everything their hearts desired from a brewery on day one. To those people I have to say, slow down an bit! We will be bringing out a lot of beers in the future but we cannot do it all at once. It will take us some time to get all of these launched. Remember, we are not a brew pub. We are a production brewery with enough future capacity to be in the top 100 largest craft breweries in the USA. This is our goal, and we need you to get there. We hope to exceed all expectations at Tin Man and be a place for everyone to enjoy a pint.   Cheers, Sean O’Rear Head Brewer Tin Man Brewing Company http://tinmanbrewing.com ...read more
