The Art of Iron Work / Working Iron

Hello, My name is Daniel Mazur.  I've been in the iron works industry for over twenty years.  I worked in a company that fabricated woven wire mesh partions and folding gates located on the south side of Chicago.  I worked my way up to Layout Man in the wire department, which means that I would Proof read the drawings to make sure they were correct and then after all corrections were made I would prep the material per drawing for fabrication (i.e., cut, punch, form, weld, machine, etc.). Wire mesh / folding gates is a reletively easy process because it is repetitive.  Every so often I would get a drawing for a special job like inlays to railings, stairwells, etc. or one time I had a dutch door in a swing door in a slide door as one item.  Those were the times my job felt more rewarding.  The company went into dire straights after the son took over and the company sold.  The new owner stated he didn't need half of the shop crew (which at the time was down to eight men from twenty two in a matter of seventeen years) and laid me along with three others off.  That's when I decided to start my own business.  I love working iron, especially when it involves something more challenging than woven wire.  I am a custom made to order iron worker.  I work iron into shapes or forms to my clients liking.  I not only can fabricate the works that I show I've done, but I also can fabricate railings, fences, gates, clocks, lamps, sculptures and so on.  I look at iron work as an art form in itself and I love the challenge of creation.  Some people may look at my work and feel that I can only fabricate the type of items that are shown, but the truth of the matter is that iron work is iron work and working iron is working iron.  So if you have an idea for something you want to call your own or would like me to create something for you, contact me so we can get started on that special project of yours. ...read more
