Panama is located in Montgomery and Bond Counties, Illinois. According to the 2000 census the village has a population of 323. Panama was founded in the early 20th century and the Shoal Creek Coal Company of Chicago had a mine in there. Union organizer John L. Lewis lived in Panama as a coal miner between 1909 and 1915. Area attractions include Panama Lake, Doneilson Cemetery, and the Historical Society of Montgomery County. Sorento School is located in nearby Sorento. I just wanted to write and say that the Shafers' were very professional, and very easy to work with. They were extremely helpful during a very trying time. They asked me what I wanted unlike the other places in the area, who pushed a sale. The facilities are nice, and their prices are below the traditional "final cost" that others offer.
