About Meredosia, IL
Meredosia is a city located in Morgan County, Illinois. It is considered to be part of the Jacksonville Micro Area. The city is located in the area referred to as the Illinois River Valley. At one time watermelons, cantaloupe, and fresh vegetables were grown in the area and sold at road side markets. This form of employment has declined in recent years due to small farmers selling their land off to bigger companies and turning to factory work or move away from the area. The two largest industrial businesses located in Meredosia are the Merdosia Power Plant, owned by AmerenEnergy and opened in 1948 and the Celanese Corporation, formerly National Starch, a plastic and resin manufacturer. Other area businesses include Tim's Auto Center, Approach Restaurant, and Adm Grain Company.
