Searching for a Space

Storefront Shakespeare is preparing a production of Much Ado About Nothing that will perform throughout July, the only catch is, we need a location. Storefront Shakespeare is a mobile not-for-profit theater company moving from space to space, raising awareness about empty storefronts and performing classic plays with modern twists. We usually occupy spaces anywhere from one to three months and have a very non-invasive approach to these spaces with a minimalistic, mobile set and seating. Our next production is Much Ado About Nothing which is set in Sicily, this production will be set in modern day with a mafia twist. If you know of a location that would work for this production, please email StorefrontShakespeare@gmail.com ...read more

On Our Way

You can read this blog at http://www.storefrontshakespeare.org/noras-blog.html  So I guess people read my blog! I met a couple of ladies who were looking at the signs we've put up in our Geneva storefront and one of them mentioned reading my blog. How she came across it I may never know, but I was very excited to find out that someone who didn't even know me was familiar with this blog. So, thanks for reading. All of you, whoever you are.Time seems to be racing by. I can't believe we go up in less than a week. All of the loose ends are getting tied up, last minute projects are getting done, fliers are going up and I believe our set is now more or less complete. Now we just rehearse like crazy and hope that at the end of the week an audience shows up.(If you are interested you can now buy tickets online by following a link on our "Home" page. Hint, hint.)I'm still looking for a location for our BollywoodAs You Like It.I have been getting some great suggestions that I will follow up on as soon asMidsummeris in performance and we're no longer rehearsing every day. I'm also getting a lot of great resumes for set designers interested in our production. I'll be interviewing people soon.Once we have a set designer, we need to have a Bollywood movie marathon and brainstorming party. Please leave a comment with the name of your favorite Bollywood movie or music video.  Yay! Fun research! Now I have to go write my "Director's Note" for the program. This is the part I dread most of every production. How do you write about your vision for a play without sounding pompous or overly sentimental? How do you convey all of the love and passion and frustration that goes into creating a production in a couple of  paragraphs? If you've got it figured out,  please let me know. Thanks again for reading. I'll post again soon and let you know about tech week and our opening! ...read more
