Bank of America

1.0

By ABNU at Citysearch

This branch's cross-selling efforts became so aggressive that my wife, who was simply trying to make a deposit, was forced to sign up for a credit card. She initially refused, and they told her that they couldn't proceed to the next screen until she signed up. She again refused, incredulous that they would attempt such a scam, and demanded to speak with the manager. Even the manager would not allow her to make the deposit, however, until she had signed a credit card application. My wife wrote in large letters across the form, "I do not want a Bank of America credit card--I am only signing this form because the management will not let me make a deposit until I do." A week later my wife received the BOA credit card in the mail. We promptly closed our account. However, the incompetent staff didn't close the account properly, and we began receiving monthly bills for fees because our account was below the minimum required balance, and the fees left us overdrawn, which generated more fees!! We promptly went to the branch and notified them that the account had been closed. After over an hour of waiting while various tellers and managers phoned HQ and worked to resolve the problem, we thought it was over. However, the next month we received another notice, and the month after that another! We again visited the branch and finally thought we would bring to a close our sour and painful relationship with BOA. Not so, as just this month we received a notice saying we owed a fee for our safety deposit box. This was beyond ridiculous, since we emptied the box and returned the keys on the day we initially closed the account. When we called BOA, they told us they have no record of our returning the keys and show that the box is still open. This problem is still not resolved. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING BANKING WITH BOA, BEWARE--YOU ARE STARTING A RELATIONSHIP THAT IS DESTINED TO END WITH A MESSY DIVORCE!! ...read more
