Consumers need to be careful when shopping on line via yellow pages or other listings for Proffessional Entertainers. Quite often, I find the consumer will quickly dismiss an entertainer due to higher rates when the value may actually be much better because of their education, experience and expertise in the field.  Like any proffession, some Clowns, Jugglers, Magicians or other Family Entertainers are better / more experianced and or educated than others. Be sure to get referrals and check out web sites and videos before making a decision and don't be affraid to tactfully negotiate rates If Budget is an issue. Be sure to ask about years of experience and any specialized training and education. I myself was self trained as a clown for 8 years before attending Ringling Bros Clown College. I spent some time with Ringling Circus as well as earning a dregree in K-12 education. Myself and about 30 other Balloon Twisters get together bi-monthley to share ideas and expand our skill levels. My greatest interest as an entertainer is Interactive Movement Entertainment such as The Simon Says Challenge, Interactive Picnic Games, Team Building etc... I have created a Show ( The Team challenge Game Show) were I can teach posture, health and fitness while the audience competes in crazy wacky relays. I spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year on costuming and equipment to keep current. I have a strong passion for what I do and continue to expand my knowledge and skills as an entertainer. I work / network with a number of outstanding entertainers in the Chicagoland area. I have also run accross some entertainers that are happy enough to accept your money while displaying minimal skills. We all have to live within our budget, but the lowest price is not always the greatest value. Make sure you do your homework to get the best Entertainment Value for your event.
