I went in for extreme dental pain after being referred by St. Luke's emergency room staff. I was told that they use a sliding fee scale, which they refused to apply after I said I was starting a new job for the state next month. I was kept waiting for almost an hour and a half then the dentist made my pain worse by trying to get my abscessed tooth to drain. It didn't. I would think a dentist would know how to drain an abscessed tooth but he seemed to just be blindly poking sharp instruments in the hole in my tooth. Now it feels as if my jaw is broken. Then they quoted me a price of over $1000, to be paid up front, to fix my single tooth, even though I have not been working. I was told, "since you know what you will be making at your new job we will use that income, which means you won't qualify for any discounts." How can they use income I haven't earned yet at a job I haven't even started? It's all about the money and not about helping people. I would never go back. ...read more

General Dentist Boise | I Chipped a Tooth! What Can I Do?

It usually starts pretty innocently. You’re biting into your favorite hard candy and suddenly you realize that there’s one little hard piece in your mouth you can’t seem to dissolve. You check it out and fear overcomes you when you see it’s a little chipped piece of a tooth.    Enamel may be one of the hardest substances in the body but like most things in life, it has its limit. Whether you are chewing on ice or grinding your teeth at night, there’s always a chance of putting your teeth at risk. If you have chipped your tooth, there’s no need to panic. Here are a few things we can do to restore your beautiful smile:    Tooth Bonding    Tooth bonding has many structural uses, and it can be very helpful for repairing chipped teeth. Tooth bonding is a simple procedure that doesn’t require any numbing. The bonding materials and porcelain used are natural in color and can be designed to perfectly match your teeth. Your smile will look good as new, and people will have a hard time noticing you ever chipped a tooth to begin with.     Dental Crown    Adental crownis a tooth-shaped cap that helps protect your teeth, while at the same time improving its appearance. An AACD (American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry) dentist will likely use a tooth colored crown made out of porcelain or zirconia to look identical to your teeth. Crowns will also provide the durability and strength your teeth need to withstand daily use. You may only need a partial crown if our dentist sees that the chip doesn’t affect the entire tooth.     Porcelain Veneers    Porcelain laminate veneers are made up of several thin layers of ceramic used to repair chipped teeth. They will be bonded to the teeth to replace the original enamel of the tooth with a special adhesive.Dental veneersare a fantastic way to get your tooth to look whole and healthy again.     If you have a chipped tooth and would like more information on these methods, or to schedule a consultation, contact our officetoday.  Towne Square Dental of Boise 8660 Emerald St., #152 Boise, ID 83704 (208) 639-4390 http://boisetownesquaredental.com/ ...read more

Boise ID Dentist | The Periodontal Disease - Diabetes Connection

In our mouths, we have numerous forms of bacteria. Some are helpful and some are harmful. Bacteria in the mouth can be helpful because it helps to sanitize the mouth and breaks down food particles. However, too much bacteria can lead to the development of gum disease which can be damaging to your oral health.    When the bacteria start to collect in the mouth, it can create a sticky colorless substance known as “plaque” that sticks on to your teeth. If the plaque is not removed during brushing or flossing, the particle can harden and turn in to tartar. Over time, plaque and tartar becomes more difficult to remove at home so a professional cleaning with the [keywords] is important for maintaining your oral health and preventing decay and periodontal (gum) disease.  The longer the plaque and tartar remain on the teeth, the more harm they can cause to your oral health. Eventually plaque and tartar will create a mild form of gum disease called Gingivitis, which is an inflammation of the gum tissue. Ideally, routine cleanings and proper oral care can prevent gingivitis from developing. Once gum disease is prevalent, only your dentist can help to maintain the disease and prevent it from progressing.    In cases where gingivitis is not treated, it can then advance to periodontal disease. With periodontal disease, the inflammation now affects the soft tissue (gums) and the tooth and if left unattended, it can cause the tooth to loosen or fall out.   Having periodontal disease also can affect your overall bodily health. In many studies, there have been connections with periodontal disease to diabetes and heart disease. It is important to regularly seeyour dentistfor a routine, professional cleaning and examination to prevent gum disease.  With periodontal disease, the Dentist  has solutions to help you prevent and maintain gum disease. A common solution for controlling periodontal disease is a deep dental cleaning, which can be performed by your Dentist or certified hygienist. Contact ustoday toschedule your next visit. Boise Dentist | Gaining Wisdom on Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last new teeth that will enter your mouth. Most patients have some form of complications resulting from their wisdom teeth. Did you know that your wisdom teeth can impact your overall health? Here’s what you need to be aware of regarding your wisdom teeth.    The Basics  Typically, your wisdom teeth will come in between the ages of 17 and 25. According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), as many as 90% of patients have an impacted wisdom tooth. An Impacted tooth is unable to properly grow through your gums because of a lack of space.     What This Means for You  An impacted wisdom tooth is something you should talk to our doctor about. Impacted teeth can cause infection and damage to surrounding teeth. It is extremely important these issues are addressed early on. Your wisdom teeth are hard to clean in the back of your mouth. An infected tooth not receiving the proper care can be a breeding ground for bacteria leading to infection and gum disease.    Wisdom Teeth & Your Overall Health  An infection of your wisdom teeth can lead to oral diseases, but it can also lead to further, more serious complications as well. THE AAOMS explains that oral bacteria that gets into your bloodstream can lead to heart, kidney, and other organ infections. That’s right, your teeth can impact your overall health!    The Importance of Examinations  You might not notice any pain or discomfort around your wisdom teeth, but that does not necessarily mean they are healthy. Even wisdom teeth that fit properly can be the target of a future infection. It is essential to keep up with regular examinations so that our trained, experienced team can take a close look at your wisdom teeth.     What You Can Do  We cannot overstate the importance of regular oral examinations. Our doctor can help assess your wisdom teeth and whether they will need to be removed. Wisdom teeth can have a significant impact on your oral health and your overall health, so we recommend staying vigilant with your daily oral hygiene routine.    For more questions about wisdom teeth or to schedule your examination, please contact our office.    Resources: The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons  http://www.aaoms.org/images/uploads/pdfs/Ebook_Wisdom_Teeth_R.pdf    ...read more
