Manilla is a city in Crawford County, Iowa and is located along the West Branch of the West Nishnabotna River. The name Nishnabotna comes form a Native American word meaning canoe-making river. The West Nishnabotna was the topic of a humorous song on the 1974 C.W. McCall album Wolf Creek Pass. The River was also mentioned in the 2008 Marilynne Robinsonn novel Home.
