Action Towing

1.0

By Richlg

On September 29, 2013, our car broke a ball joint while driving around and we called AAA for a tow to the dealership. Action Towing came our within 30 to 45 minutes. The driver pulled the car up on the flatbed tow truck then chained it secure. The driver seemed adequate and after some time he was ready to go. My wife and grandson had received a ride home from a generous lady that had stopped by. The plans were that I would ride with the tow truck to the dealer and she would pick me up there. When we arrived at the dealership, she was already waiting. The tow driver backed the truck near a parking spot and I got out. My wife and I were standing watching the driver as he unchained the car. All of a sudden as he unhooked the last chain, the car rolled off the back of the truck while the bed was still flat and the car rolled off approximately four foot in the air. Keep in mind that the front bumper, grill, and hood scraped all the way down to the ground. When the car hit the ground, it kept rolling and hit the back corner or a New Honda. As we watched our car come off the truck and scrape down the back of their truck, the front of our car actually flexed upwards as the weight rubbed all the way to the ground. The tow driver ran around like an idiot cussing and screaming that he forgot to put the parking break on. I spoke with a maint. man at the dealership and he said he saw the whole thing. Well, the next day (late morning) I called Dan Wallace (Owner) at Action Towing regarding the mishap and he said that his driver didn't say anything about it that morning and would check it out. When I called Dan later that day he said that the driver said he had hoped to pay for it himself. Dan said he would go over and look at it and get back to me. I called him the next day and he said that it was pre-existing and he may owe us for a few bumper clips. He wanted to get our adjuster to go with him so he could show that it was pre-existing. For one, our adjuster shouldn't need to prove to him and he chose to not and stood behind his report. I called Dan and told him that his adjuster would have to go and he said, "I guess we'll have to go to court". The estimate was $1,947.83 just for their damage to the front. In the process of falling off the truck, the rear sway bar broke so we had to replace that ourselves with the Ball Joint repair. Any way, thanks for reading and I'll let you decide. But my stance is that my personal vehicles and my fleet of work trucks will never see an Action Towing Truck again. ...read more

I took my suv in to inspect the front brakes (they we making noises). After they looked at them, the said I needed both front and rear pads & rotors and that it would cost $1250. I was shocked. Took it my dealer to get OEM pricing... they said I only needed front pad/rotors and priced the material at 1/2 what Bi State quoted. These guys overprice there products (not even OEM, just OEM equivalent) by over 200%. Definitely won't recommend using them to anyone. ...read more

River City Tire is a family owned business and they are just the best! Not only are the completely honest with what your car needs, but they will go above and beyond to get the best price to fix it for you - if needed! I've had my care inspected at other repair shops, then took it to River City Tire and most of the things didn't need fixed at all; or just needed a little something. Bottom line is they are honest. They will tell you exactly what your car needs and give you a great price to fix it. I highly recommend them! ...read more

Maintaining Your Vehicle

Lets face it, we spend a lot of money on the purchase of a vehicle alone, only for it to depreciate. So why would anyone not want to maintain something that costs almost as much as most people's annual salary? To get the longest life out of your vehicle, maintenance is key. Some ways to keep your vehicle running effeciently is to have regular oil changes and check-ups. Learn some basics about your vehicle so you know what to look for. Air filters are relatively easy to replace on your own and should be done about every other oil change. Check belts a couple times a year and always check your fluids. Most of these little things you can do yourself and there are many helpful videos through out the internet that give you step by step instructions, but if you are like most people out there who do not want to mess with it or simply do not have the time it is best to bring it in to your trusted mechanic. Maintenance items can run you relatively cheap and keep you from some of those higher priced repairs down the road! ...read more
