About Burlington, IA
Burlington is a city in, as well as the county seat of, Des Moines County, Iowa. Often referred to as the Backhoe Capital of the World, Burlington is home to the crookedest alley in the world, Snake Alley. Among the largest employers here are manufacturing plants including the Case Corporation, General Electric, Lance Private Brands, and American Ordnance LLC. The largest employer in Burlington is the Great River Medical Center and the largest retail employer is Wal-Mart. Students here attend the Burlington Community School District which consists of five elementary schools, two middle schools( a third is under construction), one high school and an alternative high school. The Southern Community College also serves the area. Famous people with ties to the city include actor William Frawley, author A. Starker Leopold and artist Robert Watts.
