About Pearl City, HI
Pearl City, Hawaii is located northwest of Honolulu on Kamehameha Hwy off of I-H1. The nearest airport is the Honolulu International Airport and is 8.05 miles and takes 14 minutes from Honolulu to Pearl City. The city is considered to be a tropical Paradise and so the name became Pearl City. Oysters with pearls were bountiful and got King Kamehameha's attention. In the mid 1800s, cattle raising caused a severe forest and mountain denudation which slowed down the growing of the oysters in the Pearl River. In the late 1800s Benjamin Dillingham made plans to convert the western portion of Oahu, which includes Pearl City, into crop producing land. This is how the Hawaii sugar production started. The second World War slowed down the sugar producing industry. http://www.hawaiistateinfo.com/pearl-city.php Waikiki Resort Hotel and other hotels are nearby in Honolulu.
