About Pahala, HI
Pahala is a part of the Hawaii County region/metro area of Hawaii. As of the 2000 census, the census-designated place had a population of 1,378 and it has a land area of 0.8 square miles. The community of Pahala was founded on a sugarcane plantation that eventually built gas stations and stores as time went on. The first school was built in 1881 and eventually the sugarcane growing operation was converted into growing macadamia nuts. Local attractions include the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
