Cakes by Audrey

We ordered a double chocolate with chocolate icing birthday cake from Holt's bakery for our grandson's 13th birthday. What we got was cake with chocolate icing, blue icing, and icing flowers.....totally inappropriate for a boy. Also, the chocolate icing was not good. Because the number of people that were attending the party we purchased another similiar birthday cake from Cakes by Audrey in Tifton. The taste difference in the cakes were dramatic. As our grandson said "it was the difference between a really good cake and a Walmart cake". This was really surprising for Holt's because we had gotten good cakes from them in the past. ...read more

WE'RE RETIRING!!

Hey All    After 30 years of working for the local telephone company Steve has decided to retire this year. We bought Good Neighbor last year and thought we may just stay inTiftonand run the littlecountry store. But after visiting the north Georgia mountains each year on vacation, THIS year we decided to join the mountain people!!  We love it up there..and the best part is THERE ARE NO KNATS!  We hate to leave our country store but hope to pass it on to someone that truly loves stepping back in time and keeping the "old fashioned" country store alive. These little stores are our past, and we are dieing quickly. The youger generation have no clue of entering a down home store where you can pull up a chair... sit and visit with old timers with their wisdom and tells of their youth and most memorable experiences. We have kept that alive for the folks of this area. Tells of coming toGood Neighboras youngsters and Mr. Charles cutting them a big ole slice of hoop cheese!  All these memories takes us all back to a simplier time and if for only a few minutes we all smile and shake our heads and agree we sure do miss that.... We have tried to keep this atmosphere fresh in their minds. More and more we American's have forgotten where our roots are and it seems we have all conformed to the "Big Box" merchants, thus loosing the personal touches of ourhome town grocery. We now  Stand in long lines only to reach a cashier that doesn't even look at you much less greet you. No more "box boys" and taking you grocery's out for you. No more penny candy, hard wood floors or old coke boxes. At this store we have tried to keep all that going the best we can with the current costs. It's been tough but sales are very good. The vendors hate to drive 3 miles out of their way for such a little store now, they are more interested in the Big Corporate businesses. This is really sad! So if you want a laid back atmosphere, willing to work the store youself and truely enjoy the country, this may be for you. I run the store alone everyday, with the help of a cook for 5 of those 12 hours. We serve a fantastic "hot" lunch everyday. We have ruturning customers and 20 to 100 farm laborers that patronize us. And oh...we can't forget the "Table of Knowledge" that about 8 ole fellas sit at every morning rain or shine, have their breakfast and solve alot of the world affairs...
