An Earlier discussion!

Earlier today I hopped on the web for a minute. I had gotten an email which I read, then I popped on Facebook for a second and got an invite from HP to enter a contest for one of the new tablet devices. This only took a second and it popped up other people who had entered and there were comments. For some reason several of the people were complaining about there computers whether they were HP machines or not. So of course I commented as most of there comments were my computer is either almost dead or is dead and I am using a borrowed computer, or one at a different location from my home, residence, or office. This is interesting to me specifically in a couple of areas, and one to be specific. When you buy a computer that is pre-made completely by DELL, HP, SONY you name the company almost without fail one of the main strategies by that manufacturer is to spend as little an amount of money to construct it, but to sell it for as much as they can get. This of course is the aim in many businesses to turn a profit, which is not in itself bad. However; one of the biggest things they skimp on to make extra money is the Power Supply inside your computer. It is unseen probably by 80% of people, businesses who see a computer period. It is though also one of if not the most important piece in the computer. I am sure many would argue with that. However what will happen to your computer if it does not have one and you push the power button. Well absolutely nothing. The reason I pick this device category specifically is that this is done universally. It is also done universally so if you buy one of there most expensive units or one of the least expensive you are going to get a junk power supply. On top of this your power supply is your protection against power surges, black outs, white outs etc. Most would say no my surge protector is. Your surge protector in most cases is out of warranty (generally 1-3 years, 1 on most and 3-5 on more expensive ones, some even have lifetime but there more rare in general). When your surge protector is out of warranty unless it is an industrial one it may not work, and is just there moving power from the wall to you computer. This means if a surge etc comes through it will also be transferred to your computer directly. Then it hits your power supply. Which if you have a decent one will wither take it with no issue, or use it's instant shut off ( a fuse sometimes a flip switch and sometimes completely internal). This will block the incoming energy entirely. However a cheap Power supply unit will not have this and will transfer that energy directly to your motherboard, and other components until it is spent. That means it will blow out most likely everything in your computer, and or make it all non operational. So I could most likely go to these individuals houses, flip the switch, and walla there computer would come back on. If it was a dead switch no harm no fowl at all, if it is a fuse I could change the fuse. If it is a factory made PC with said cheap power supply you just lost your machine, the money you put into it, and most likely your data as well all for 1 dollar more in your chosen PC Manufacturers pocket! ...read more
