About Fort Stewart, GA
Just off Interstate 95 and southwest of Savannah, the city of Hinesville, Georgia, and its neighboring Fort Stewart are best known as the home of the massive U.S. Army installation known as Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. Together, the two cities, located on or near the Canoochie River, encompass all of Liberty County. Hinesville has an interesting historic claim: three signers of the Declaration of Independence - Button Gwinnett, Lyman Hall and George Walton - hailed from there.
