Atlanta flood damage
I want all to understand the problems with flood damage. First identify if the water reached your hot water heater or furnace, or any electrical outlets, if so shut off those circuits (don't stand in water while you turn off breakers!!!!) Turn off gas at the meter if water reached your furnace or HWH. First if you only have rain run-off your problems are less. You have some ground bio hazards but mostly mold and mildew. Remove all wet carpet and pad and other water logged items to the outside. Water vac excess water from the home, and then run every fan you can to keep the air moving and dry the home. If you had more than 2 inches of water, open the sheetrock above the flood line and remove the insulation so wall cavities can dry. PLEASE—wear a mask and gloves when removing debris—mold can grow in 12 hours or less!!! If you had river or stream flooding you may have a more serious problem then just excess rain. There was raw sewage expelled in the rivers here during the flood. So far tests show only slightly elevated amounts of E-Coli, but please use caution in removing water and mud. Mask Rubber gloves are best. I pt of household bleach per gal of water kills almost any mold or other hazard. Spray all surfaces both in and outside of all wall cavities. Dry using fans and repeat the disinfecting. But do all the basic of removing water damaged carpet sheetrock and insulation to mitigate the damage and start the drying process. Home Depot, Lowes and Tractor Supply all have 36-54" fans—cost 155-499 depending, the more air you move the faster it dries. Move all the air you can!!!! Call a pro if you can get through!!! Don't pay more than 250.00 per Trailer load to have trash hauled off. This includes the contractor loading the trailer. Dump fees are about 5.50 per cubic yard or 37.00 per ton depending on the trash facility.More to come!!!Greg BobbsEroglen770-844-1234 ...read more
