I went to register my new (used) car and get a tag for it, and I prepared myself for long waits and high frustration levels. However, the Fulton Co. tag office was a very pleasant surprise. I waited a few minutes and then talked with a very pleasant lady who take care of everything with no problems at all. She even went above and beyond and looked up my tax estimates to give me an idea of what I can expect to pay next year. I was in and out and only had to pay for 30 minutes of parking-- a very pleasant surprise! ...read more

And the dream is still alive and working. Growing up in the sixties, in Atlanta, the King family was legendary. My grandmother owned a small furniture store, in the Sweet Auburn area, and the King family were regular customers. But in 1967, that dream was shattered. But not our hopes for a better country for all American's. Dr.King's resting place is very peaceful, as was his philosphy about life. This is one site that you can stay at all day. From his chidhood home, to the tomb, this is Atlanta's History, and America's History! 12/1/06-Coretta Scott King is now entombed next to her husband. Check-out Rolling Bone's BBQ, after a visit! ...read more

WOSB / edWOSB / 8(m) Certification Program

"Prepare your company to win BIG in government contracting with the new 8(m)/edWOSB Certification Program, EVEN, if you are not a woman owned small business" The SBA released their Final Rule on the WOSB program to include a new certification called edWOSB (ed = economically disadvantaged) effective February 2011.  This new program enhances the previous WOSB program which was very limited in supporting women business owners.  Important to the program's success is a change made in the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010, which restored "parity" among all the SBA small business contracting programs.  Also, find out how the new Mentor Protege program which was opened up for edWOSB/SDVOSB/HUBZone can change how you do business with the government. WHY: There is a limited window to prepare your company to gain a competitive edge over your competitors.  The new program is scheduled to launch in February 2011.  Be one of the first businesses to get into the new WOSB Program (8m/edWOSB Certification). WHO: Any current women owned small businesses Future women owned small businesses Non-WOSB companies seeking to understand the new program for teaming/JV purposes ADVANTAGES: Women owned small businesses can win Set-Aside federal government contracts Set-Aside are available for projects with value of less than $3 million&$5 million for manufacturing 5% of all federal spending is set-aside for WOSB/edWOSB 5% subcontracting requirement to WOSB from large prime contractors Equal playing field with other programs such as HUBZone, SDVOSB&8a New Mentor Protégé program for WOSB Creates processes and guidelines for contracting officers to award set-aside contracts to WOSB's No term limit in the program 83 Industries: Qualification by NAICS codes Rule of 2 for WOSB on 45 industries No Rule of 2 for edWOSB on 38 industries 79,000+ registered WOSB companies in CCR 0 (zero) registered edWOSB companies in CCR (get in early, beat your competition) HOW:  There are multiple ways to get certified for the new WOSB/edWOSB certification: 3 Party Certification (pending SBA approval) Use your current 8a BD certification (no process defined by SBA at this time)  Use DOT's DBE certification (no process defined by SBA at this time)  Self-certify  Topics we will cover for all events:  What are the different types of certifications in the government market (8a, SDVOSB, HUBzone, WOSB, SDB, VOSB, WBE, MBE, DBE, SWUC, FBE, AABE, APBE, SECTION 3, CVE) What is the new 8(m)/edWOSB Certification Program Why is the 8(m) WOSB program important to your business How to utilize the 8(m)/edWOSB program to help you win set-aside and sole source contracts How to find WOSB companies for Teaming, Joint Ventures&Mentor Protégé partnerships How to prepare your company for getting certified 3 Strategies you need to implement to win with certifications And much more!  Choose to attend a webinar or workshop:  EDWOSB WORKSHOP: 7 hours of live workshop training and information session covering the essential areas of the new edWOSB/8(m) Program. Association Aims to Help Businesses Win Government Contracts

Atlanta, GA. – May 18, 2010 – Government contracting has been around for more than 200 years. Yet, less than 1% of businesses in the US are actively winning government contracts. With the federal government being the largest consumer in the world, spending over $523 billion in 2009 and with a recession lingering; why are so few companies doing business with the federal government. Mr. Abraham Xiong, President of Government Contractors Association, said, "Only 181,666 companies won federal contracts last year." The latest business Census reports that there are over 31 million companies. Of these companies, 596,991 are registered in the federal database (CCR), as companies interested in pursuing contracts, with 169,633 registered as certified small businesses. Thirty-one percent (31%) of businesses who are registered and actively pursuing contracts end up winning government contracts. Government agencies are seeking for greater participation from qualified vendors but are realizing that many businesses don't fully understand the procurement process. Businesses seek to win contracts with government agencies but face challenging hurdles to navigate the rules, regulations, strategic alliances, purchasing methodologies and other obstacles. According to USASpending, a database on federal spending trends, $51 billion was available for everyone to compete, but only one bid or offer was received. This means that ten percent (10%) of contracts only received one bid. Mr. Xiong believes that there needs to be greater participation and access for businesses in the government sector. Government Contractors Association was formed to help increase awareness and support businesses by providing educational webinars, seminars, coaching groups and a social website where business owners and government staffs can interact and exchange ideas. Additionally, the website is a resource center for government links, contracting strategies and training courses to equip companies as they enter or expand their business in the government market.
