Tax Chat Jan 4 - What?! You Don't Take AMEX?
Okay, accounting world? Some merchants still don't take AMEX. They are still in the time warp that AMEX fees are way more exorbitant than VISA, MC, and Discover. But the IRS??? The sheer volume of payment processing alone will negotiate the sweetest payoff AMEX ever dreamed of, even with clearing house charges below competitors' fees. My payment stayed in the ACH netherworld for a full month before I received my PTIN letter from the IRS; after I got my 2014 renewal letter. Right on the cusp of the 2013 tax season and I am primed to pump some funds into the IRS coffers, and my own account , of course. PTIN NOT renewed due to non-payment. So now I have to call the IRS (hold please), call my bank (hold please), research my bank statements (arrrgh!), reverse transactions (hold please), and try to make another payment online to be ready for the IRS e-file. What?! I can no longer renew online....with ANY card...debit or credit? "...mail a money order please." By the way, it might take 4-6 weeks to process your paper application. Come on. How archaic is this? Why can we use the integrated online payment system to pay our tax debt with AMEX but not to renew or certify our credentials? It's all the IRS. Isn't it? ...read more
