Rainwater cisterns are used to collect large amounts of water for reuse in your business, home, or garden. The biggest challenge that we face when using cisterns is the large footprint that's needed for installation. If you don't install the cistern underground the challenge of screening is cumbersome. In addition, you will need to think about the life of the cistern being exposed to the sun and other elements. Sustainable Engineering and Design designed a project, Lincoln Park Academy in Port St. Lucie, FL, with a Modular Underground Stormwater Management System. The modular system is integrated into the landscape and is perfect for those that don't want to look at an exposed cistern or for a tight space. Every year tremendous amounts of stormwater runoff is flushed down traditional systems, which end up contaminating natural waterways with gross and dissolved pollutants. The system that was used is manufactured by Atlantis and the product is RainTank, which provides viable alternatives that completely replace antiquated systems, providing a sustainable solution with the added benefit of immediate reuse of clean water. This is a major advantage for communities experiencing low rainfall or water restrictions.
