Famous Tate Appliance & Bedding Center

The service I received in the store was very good. I have no problem with the store itself. My problem is with the people who brought the new fridge to my house and had trouble getting it in so they forced and pushed it through the doors damaging the door casings and my freshly painted cabinets in the kitchen. I made the remark if they might have an easier time if they took the door off the fridge because it was too wide to get it through and he said "No!" rather gruffly. Instead he dragged it through the door damaging the door casing and the side of the fridge. Then pushing it through the kitchen door way he scraped the cabinets I just painted this summer. In taking the old fridge out he damaged the door before he decided to take that door off to get it out easier. I wouldn't order anything else and have it delivered by their team. I think they are hard headed and stubborn and don't think before they move stuff in. I am very upset with the damage done and the work they have left for me to do in repairing it!!! :( Seriously I think I should get money back from this sale as it was damaged before it was ever started. Is anyone out there listening???? ...read more

HOME BUYER’S ELECTRICAL CHECKLIST

Author: Y@DminG You thought you’ve found your dream home — a big yard, wood floors and park down the street. However, your “dream home” could become a nightmare if you don’t take the time to do a thorough inspection of the electrical units. To make this process easier, here is a list of things to look for when evaluating your home: CHECK THE WIRING Older homes usually have aluminum wiring which erodes and weakens the electrical connection. With a weak connection, the home is at risk of overheating which leads to fire. Make sure wiring is copper or safety measures have been put into place to avoid a weak connection. CHECK THE OUTLETS Outlets that are close to water should have functioning Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI) and all outlets should be grounded. Beware of loose fitting, buzzing, hot or discolored outlets. CHECK ALL LIGHT SWITCHES See that all light switches work properly, are cool to the touch and have faceplate covers. When turned on, make sure the lights function properly and don’t flicker due to a poor wiring connection. CHECK THE FUSE BOX OR CIRCUIT BREAKER Make sure the fuses are the correct size for the circuit. The wrong size fuse allows for too much current flow which causes overheating and puts your home at risk of fire. CHECK ALL CABLES Cables should be intact without cracks, fraying or exposure to inside wires. Cables between framing members need to be protected and are at risk of damage if not. CHECK THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE The National Electrical Code provides a standard for proper and safe electrical systems and all homes should be updated and compliant with these regulations. Many of these problems have a simple fix but that must be taken into consideration when making your final offer. Checking these things will help ensure your new home is a perfect fit for you. Contact us for any electrical inspection or maintenance needs you might have while making your buying decision. ...read more

Simple Sprinkler Repairs

This handyman does lots of repairs to sprinklers. Our climate is such that during the summer, if the landscape doesn’t get irrigated daily, even multiple times daily, the landscape will die quickly. So it doesn’t help when the sprinkler head gets hit with the lawnmower. When sprinkler heads get hit or kicked, it’s not the sprinkler head that breaks, it is the riser that it is screwed into. The riser is a threaded fitting that connects the sprinkler head to the elbow. When the riser snaps off, it can sometimes be a challenge to get out. If there is any of the riser still sticking out of the elbow, you can try to grab it with pliers and turn it out. This, however, can lead to tearing the rest of the riser off flush with the elbow. Then it’s time to grab the extractor. A sprinkler riser extractor is a cheap tool that works great. It is shaped like the letter “T” and has a tapered set of teeth at the bottom. Place the tapered end into the riser, apply some pressure, and start turning. The teeth will bite into the riser and unscrew it. With the broken riser removed, you might try installing a shorter riser so that an impact will lessen the chances of breaking it again. ...read more
