My daughter and son-in-law were trying to get a mobile home for the lot that they currently are financing. The salesperson showed them a couple of homes and they decided on a home that and the salesperson drew up the paperwork and had a GFE and supposedly they were preapproved. One of the requirements was that the financing include paying of the current mortgage on the lot and rolling that into the financing. This was all included in the GFE. We gave a $2000 deposit to cover appraisals and other expenses to get the deal rolling. This was the recommended amount by the salesperson but larger than the required amount. A couple weeks later we were informed that the property didn’t appraise for what the bank required but they would do the house alone, but not the house that they wanted but a smaller house. This was not acceptable to my daughter and son-in-law as this left the lot mortgage unpaid. The salesperson was told that we were not interested in that deal and we have tried to get the unused portion of the deposit returned. Stewart Mobile Homes states that since my daughter and son-in-law were approved for a deal, not the one originally agreed upon and for a smaller home, that they do not need to return any of the deposit.\r\nIf you deal with Stewart Mobile Homes, which I would recommend against, insure that you only give them the minimum of money for any kind of deposit!! ...read more
