Inexpensive Broken Beaded Jewelry Repair

Many people enter my shop with broken beaded jewelry. Some pieces are family heirlooms while others are jewelry items that were picked up on vacations in other countries or in a department store. The common denominator is a favorite piece of jewelry is broken.  Many customers enter my shop with broken jewelry and one of the first comments even before they remove the jewelry from the bag is "it's a really cheap piece of jewelry, but it's my favorite…" Many are hoping that this comment will help determine the cost of the repair, but that's not how the cost of a jewelry repair is determined. There are several factors that will determine the cost of a repair. Time, labor and materials are just a three factors. Sometimes the most inexpensive piece of jewelry can cost more to repair than an expensive piece of jewelry. Just this week a young lady came into my shop with a waist necklace that was made of hundreds, if not thousands of tiny seed beads. She wanted this item made longer by 3 inches. She brought an identical piece that she wanted me to cut and then join the two together to reach the desired length. The size of the beads alone was enough for me to pass on the job and the fact that she wanted it joined rather than restrung (which would have been the best repair option) was enough to give me bead-exploding nightmares. At the time, I was in the process of completing another difficult repair, but it was like I was hearing an inaudible challenge emitting from this tiny beaded foe. But being the bead conqueror that I am, I took the job and attacked the repair right away. Needless to say I repaired the item beautifully…. 2 hours later and a long lecture that went something like this" I will never ever take a job like this again". The lecture was long because I repeated it over and over the entire 2 hours. But I enjoyed the challenge. The next time a customer enters my store with a tiny beaded disaster will I turn the job down, probably not, especially if I can the challenge.  ...read more

Broken Stretchy Cord Bracelet Repair Tips

Many people own stretchy cord bracelets that have broken. Many of these bracelets have become the favorite go to bracelet for everyday wear.  Whether expensive or cheap, if you love your stretchy cord bracelet it's worth getting it repaired professionally. Several factors are taken into consideration when determining the cost of your repair, time, complexity of design and replacement cost of missing beads. One of the first things that will determine the price of your repair is the size of your beads. Working with tiny beads is a painstaking task that requires time and fortitude. Larger beads on the other hand can be easier to arranged and string. Also the size of the hole in the bead can determine how much time is required to repair a bracelet. The numbers of strands in a bracelet are also a factor. I have repaired stretchy cord bracelets that are the standard single strand to multiple strands of beautiful beads. A repair on multiple strand bracelets requires the designer to actually reconstruct the bracelet before it has been dismantled any further to ensure that the finished length is correct. If your bracelet has already broken in many pieces, your bracelet will need to be redesigned. Also the cost of missing beads and other beading components are considered when determining the price of the repair. Missing beads will need to be replaced with similar beads that harmonize with the natural beauty of the original design.Click link for more detailshttp://simplegracesjewelry.com/beadedjewelryrepair.html   ...read more

How to pick the right colors for your bridesmaid’s jewelry

Picking colors for your bridal jewelry can be very easy when you follow this simple tip: keep it simple. Picking the color of your jewelry will depend on a few things. The color of the bridesmaids dresses, shoes and/ or other colors being used in your wedding. 1. Go Classic.Consider using a style of necklace that's been tried and true for many years: A simple strand of off-white pearls. This necklace does not have to be made of real pearls. Swarovski Crystal pearls and glass pearls come in many colors and sizes, I prefer Swarovski Crystal pearls because they are made of  better quality materials. Glass pearls are less expensive but will peel over time. 2. Pedants are pretty too!A simple pendant on a chain will add sparkle to your bridesmaid's dresses. Whether you use a clear crystal pendant or a color that matches the dresses, your results will be simple but oh so pretty. 3. Keep it in the same color family.Have jewelry designed that's close to the colors of your bridesmaids, maid of honor or flower girl's dresses. It's important to remember to look for similar colors and not exact colors. Trying to find the exact color could cause you major stress and frustration. My professional advice is to go with a color that's a little lighter or a tad bit darker. 4. Color clues from head to toe.If you want to have multicolored bridal jewelry then pull colors from the bridesmaid's dresses and shoes.  Combining the two colors and maybe a few pearls or clear crystals could make a stunning combination. ...read more
