After the holidays and the gift giving is done there are some things to look out for that may cause a hazard in your home for your elderly loved ones. --New furniture Placement of new furniture can be confusing and could lead to a tripping hazard or bruising risk for your elderly loved one. A constant reminder daily to them that the new furniture is there will help. Create a wide path where the furniture will not interfere with their routine route (going to the kitchen, bathroom or bedroom). --New rugs Make sure all new rugs are taped down with rug tape. You can buy this at any hardware store. People can easily trip and fall on the edges of a new carpet. --New appliances Anything with a cord or the need for an extension cord should be carefully tucked away or covered.
