University At Sea

1.0

By prairiemom

University at Sea (www.continuingeducation.net) is not reliable and did not stand behind their claims that their course would satisfy CLE requirements. I attended a 2-day course provided by this company on Royal Caribbean in 2014. I was assured multiple times before and during the course that this would qualify for CLE credit in my state of IL, but University at Sea NEVER got the course approved. Furthermore, I was unable to apply for credit on my own because the course did not qualify for accreditation by individual attorneys. My tuition payment was never refunded despite the fact that University at Sea staff admitted they "dropped the ball." Also, if you read the regs, the IRS does not allow ANY deduction for travel for courses provided on cruises (only the tuition itself), which the company never mentions, of course. So why waste your time in a boring conference room while you are on a fabulous cruise ship? Never again. ...read more

Improve Your Google Page Ranking with Free Online Marketing

I think just about every business owner likes to "Google" themselves or their business using a few favorite key words to see where their business ranks, especially since about 80% of the population now turns to an online search before contacting a business.  Even if you're confident that the keywords you searched with are good ones, what do you do to improve your ranking if you don't like your results?  Couldn't you just dump extra money into more adwords?  You could spend more money on ad words, but keep in mind that most people who are looking for a business are more apt to look into the center results or the "organic," free non-paid results than look at an adword listing. So it makes sense to budget some time and money to get yourself or your business in the free results.   What are a few of the actions can you take to get yourself to Page 1 of the Google search results?  For starters, one of the most important items you can maximize is your Google Places listing. It's not enough to just claim it. You'll want to add as many photos, videos, reviews, tags, descriptions and keywords relevant to your business and/or website to your listing as you can.  For each keyword associated with your web site or business, notice what other sites come up in the search results. Some of them will be local online directories, like Merchant Circle, your competitors, blogs, press releases, Youtube, Flickr, Facebook, etc.  Is there an opportunity to place your information on any of those sites and use keywords to help you come up in the results as well?  To do this, it does help if you have some basic knowledge of selecting your relevant keywords and you'll want to have the time to do some research and then share and upload the information. If you're spending big bucks on adwords and don't feel the results are paying off, then considering maximizing your free online marketing sources to move you up closer to Page 1 of Google.  If you'd like help figuring out what types of social media or online directories to use for your business, feel free to contact me. I offer a free 12-minute consultation and can also share an business marketing questionnaire for you to complete to help you see where you are now and what free online marketing sites are available to you that you may want to consider.  I can be reached at: 727-504-0777 or just email: kathy@kathymarlor.com.  ...read more

Businesses are using text marketing to retain clients & increase $

Text message marketing is gaining in popularity every year and that makes perfect sense considering: 80%-90% of all marketing emails are NOT opened by the recipient. 86% of all Americans own a cell phone 97% of all text messages are opened 83% of all text messages are opened within an hour.   SMS text marketing was a no-brainer for companies like: Walgreens, MacDonalds, Ford, Hilton Hotel Group, Pepsi and Dunkin Donuts who have used SMS text marketing to offer coupons, a Super Bowl promotion and special offers. But what about smaller businesses?  Can text marketing benefit single-location businesses, multiple location businesses and even healthcare providers? The answer is absolutely with a capital"A." SMS text marketing can be used in hundreds of ways to stay connected to your attentive audience. Here are some ideas on how SMS text marketing can be put to good use: Restaurant Ownerscould send out text coupons such as discounts for dinner, nightly specials, and even quick limited-time offers during any slow times the restaurant may be having. Real Estate Agentscould send out SMS text marketing messages about new listings, price reductions on current listings and open houses. Doctors Officescould send appointment reminders, health tips, a welcome message to new patients, and their website link so that patients have the option of downloading and printing necessary paperwork to complete it prior to their visit to save time. Schools, Churches, Nightclubs, Lawyers, Stores, Bands, Spas,Organizationscan benefit from using text marketing to stay in touch through event reminders, appointment confirmations, tips, discounts, offers and more to communicate valuable information to those that want it. How it Works: Your Audience Opts-In One of the most important elements about using SMS text marketing for your audience is that your audience requests to be included by sending a text message to a keyword that you've selected. For example if I was in a band,  I'd simply ask my fans to text in my keyword to a number I provide that goes to my SMS text marketing company so they could get my updates. Fans would be asked to text in the keyword to a number code that's easy to remember like 90210. I.E. "Text in the word "Jordan" to 90210 to subscribe to our updates and to register for a chance to win our $1,000 tour package!" The keyword and the text number can be announced through a sign or banner in your business, on your  web site announcement, face-to-face, on social networking sites and anyway that you communicate with your audience now.
