WELL, IT'S ABOUT TIME!! All you un-licensed pool contractors who've been making the quick buck will finally have to educate yourselves, insure yourselves, and answer for the work that you do. I know it's been a good ride, too bad you've all been investing in new trucks, trips, and real estate instead of your education and proper licensing. The DBPR is FINALLY adding a charge to my renewal fee that I can live with....$5.00 for un-licensed activity to fund a hot line for LICENSED CONTRACTORS to turn in UN-LICENSED CONTRACTORS!! I cannot begin to tell you how many times that I've been gentle (pricewise) to a homeowner with regards to re-plumbing a system that was so messed up I assumed it was done by them, only to find out later that they had paid some "pool guy" nearly DOUBLE WHAT I HAD CHARGED TO RIP IT OUT AND FIX IT!! So, here I am, the one who does things the right way, taking the hit and doing the job for very little over cost - just to restore the person's faith in humanity.Well, unfortunately, it does not pay the bills, or the licensing; continuing education (yes, there are things changing every day in all aspects of the industry); the proper chemicals/supplies (not JUST a bucket of tabs, a pole, and a brush).
