The government, or administration, has finally figured it out about loan modifications. The banks are laughing at the Making Home Affordable Act in one gigantic way. They may reduce your rate, they may reduce your payment, but, everything you owe including the difference between what your balance is and what your property is worth, is being ALSO added to the back of the new loan. The administration has finally figured it out that this is not any answer to the huge real estate and foreclosure issues that plague America today. It is a band-aid, or a postponement to a later date. Here is an example. Imagine modifying your loan. $150,000 is attached to the back of the new loan (this represents the difference between what your balance was and what your property is worth), and you are relocated for your job. You now have to sell your house and pay the difference of the $150,000 and also whatever you were in arrears to move or relocate. AWESOME huh? Or what if you just WANT to sell? Or what about if you move to another state? Or you want to "downsize"? Maybe this will set us straight. If everyone has their principals reduced, and we start over by having that huge difference "forbeared", everyone might have the possibility to capture the investment in the future of what a property is supposed to give us.
