iColore- The Business of being Creative
The business of being creative is all about the creation and day to day lessons learned in running my company, iColore. First of all, I am Valerie Mana, the creator and CEO of iColore, LLC. I am the mother of 3 and have been an entrepreneur since the age of 21. I have had many misadventures along my entrepreneurial path; however, those lessons have lead me to where I am today and I am grateful for that. Where am I today? I am in the throws of what I consider to be my purpose here on earth, what I was meant to do. I created a company that took the things I loved (i.e. art, business, kids, color) packaged it up in the perfect gift packaging and offered it to all grandparents, moms, dads, aunts, uncles and friends, retail boutiques, gift stores and more. All as a way for those mentioned to give the kids in their lives everyday creative alternatives to TV and video games. iColore is the perfect gift that allows kids to customize their own t-shirt. We currently offer t-shirts kids color. All designs are my original designs (one of my favorite parts of the business). Every iColore t-shirt package comes with 1 shirt, markers, a practice page and instructions. Why start iColore? I created iColore because my kids were always asking me to draw their basic images for their home art projects or for cards to friends and family. I was on my way home from a Disney World trip (which is a frequent occurrence in our family and the source of many creative ideas) and I thought why not give kids the basic designs and they can customize them. Kids often feel stressed or incapable when it comes to drawing a permanent design. We give them the shirt with the design on it and then give them the tools needed to customize that design and make it his/her own work of wearable art. In 2008 iColore was created and was officially launched late in the year. Why come back and read this blog? If you are in the beginning process of creating a company, thinking of making your hobby more than just a hobby, wanting to follow your dreams and passions, perhaps you can learn from what I've learned. Because, along with my love of all things creative, I feel an intense passion to share my experiences with those just starting out in business so that they can save some money, time and avoid the mistakes I have made along the way. iColore's- Be Creative
Be Creative is all about my, Valerie Mana (CEO and Founder of iColore, mother of 3), pursuit to share creative products and ideas with the world. Kids spend entirely too much time in front of the computer, TV and video games these days. Give them other alternatives... give them the gift of creativity. I created I color because me kids were always wanting me to draw their basic images for their home art projects or for cards to friends and family. I thought why not give kids the basic design, because many kids feels stressed or unable when it comes to drawing a permanent design. Then give them the tools needed to customize or personalize that design and make it all his/her own work of art. So with iColore's launch in 2008 came our first customizable product: the iColore customizable t-shirt. T-shirts kids color. Each shirt comes with the markers needed, 1 shirt, a practice page and instructions. I have spent my entire life as a mother (for 15 years) helping my kids create the perfect Mother's Day gift for Grandmas, Father's Day gifts for Dad and Grandpas, Christmas and birthday gifts for all. We have enjoyed fun and unique gifts with many people and in the process they have developed a love of art, crafts and being creative. I have enjoyed the creative pursuit so much over the years that I began to teach creative projects to other kids. I also painted murals professionally and taught drawing to children. Then came iColore. I am passionate about what this company stands for and that is, getting kids to be more creative by giving them everyday creative products.
