Importance of MVRs and Drug Screening

In the difficult business environment of today, a company must remain strongly committed to its risk management practices. In the overall program of risk management, employee screening is an essential element. With thorough screening of a prospective employee, a company can make sure that they hire reliable and honest employees. A company that employs drivers should take reasonable measures to ensure that they hire the right people for the job. Among these steps are the use ofDOT Drug TestingandMVR (Motor Vehicle Record) checksto determine if an applicant has a good history. Why an MVR Check is Important? Employee driving records can greatly help employers identify and mitigate risk liability in the workplace. Driving Records can help employers avoid risk of third party lawsuits, medical bills, and other costs associated with automobile accidents by an employee whose primary role or even incidental role includes driving on the job. AnMVR checkincludes include license details such as state issued, status, expiration, suspensions, revocations, violations and sanctions. MVR Reports are easy to read and include standardizedacd violation codes. MVR Driving History mostly repeats itself. So, if a company runs an MVR check it would be able to predict the chances of any negative activity happening in the future. Moreover, insurance companies focus on several factors in determining auto insurance rates and their premiums are sometimes based on driving history records. If a company employs drivers with a negative driving history, it can be charged with higher premiums by the insurance company. Knowing about MVR driving records helps companies safeguard themselves from higher premiums. Driving Records should be checked at least annually; however, it is recommended to check them more frequently to proactively determine if there have been any changes to the driving record and to further reduce company liability.MVRcheck.comprovides a real-time MVR ordering system whereby mvrs can be ordered manually or in batches. In addition, real-time driver monitoring is also available. Why Drug Screening is Important? Generally, all CDL drivers who operate commercial motor vehicles subject to the CDL requirements on public roads in the U.S. are performing safety-sensitive functions are subject toDOT drug and alcohol testing. This includes all full-time, part-time, intermittent, backup and international drivers. DOT truck drivers must undergo a drug screening test prior to their employment. This is to be done once per year, after any accident, and if there is a suspicion that a driver is taking drugs. Also, CDL drivers must be randomly tested throughout the year. DOT drug tests require laboratory testing for the following five classes of drugs: Marijuana Cocaine Opiates – opium and codeine derivatives Amphetamines and methamphetamines Phencyclidine – PCP. DOT alcohol tests identify alcohol concentration of 0.02 and greater. Effective January 1, 2018, CDL drivers will be tested for four semi-synthetic opioids (i.e., hydrocodone, oxycodone, hydromorphone, oxymorphone). Some common names for these semi-synthetic opioids include OxyContin®, Percodan®, Percocet®, Vicodin®, Lortab®, Norco®, Dilaudid®, Exalgo®. In addition, they will no longer be tested for MDEA. When drivers take drugs, their motor skills suffer and their reaction times are severely hampered. This can be dangerous and lead to accidents. Proper Drug screening ensures that a company has healthy drivers on the road. If you wish to run an MVR check or Drug Screening on your employees to make better informed hiring decisions, go toMVRcheck.com ...read more

How to Hire the Right Sales Team

Have you ever hired someone that had the perfect job history experience, great sales and communication skills, and was a dream candidate in their interview, only to find their performance not matching up to your expectations? The trouble with hiring the ideal sales people is that more often than not the hiring decision is based on educational background, prior experience, prior performance, personality, and a subjective view of how they will fit in with the rest of the sales team. While these are important pre-requisites to making a hire, they ignore the key behaviors or competencies that drive success. If you haven't already discovered, creating great sales team members is often less about past performance than about their work ethic, drive and dedication. You want someone who is going to have superior planning and organizational skills, is self-motivated, has a high level of integrity, is confident and has excellent interpersonal skills. It's hard to know if a candidate checks all the boxes on your "ultimate employee" checklist by asking a few static questions. Rather, as sales leaders, it is essential to probe further and ask them to describe situations where they have demonstrated their skills or behaviors, the specific actions they took, and the results they achieved. Furthermore, to help them be successful in your business, selling your products, it is imperative they have the proper systems and tools they can draw upon so as to be seen as a trusted and knowledgeable advisor. We don't send doctor's into the ER without proper training, so nor should we expect that a sales person qualified for their previous job has the right tools for this job.Online sales training coursesfrom Insight Human Dynamics helps break bad sales habits and teaches new behaviors that can break barriers and help them to achieve new levels of success.               Blog 2 of 2Title: Reduce Turnover with AssessmentsKeyword: sales force assessments In the sales world, employee turnover is often high. As a business owner who utilizes a job recruiter or has an in-house HR department, it's easy to wonder if those tasked with doing the hiring are the problem or if the issue is with the employee themselves. It may be a little of one and a lot of the other, or it may be that the employee didn't receive the proper training and support needed to be successful in their role. More times than not, this is the issue. The long-term success of your employees, and your business as a whole, is dependent on the interview process. Hiring the wrong people for the wrong positions is a lose-lose situation every time. Increase the odds of hiring the right people by implementing these successful hiring tactics:Team Effort -Include a few colleagues in the interview process to help best tell how well someone will fit into your organization’s culture and understand its goals. Invite your sales manager, a team supervisor and a high-performing member of your current sales team. Stick With a Plan –Once you’ve found a successful hiring process, stick with the plan. Winging it never works. Know what skills and attributes your best salespeople have and look for those qualities in your candidates. Relying on an exact set of criteria that has produced a successful sales team will help cut sales-staff turnover. Assess the Situation -The right assessment given at the right stage of the interview process can alleviate hiring the wrong candidate.Sales force assessmentsare used for recruiting, hiring, and team building within an organization. So whether your goal is to hire the right person, or retrain your staff with the tools and knowledge needed to connect with the client at any phase of the sales process, Insight Human Dynamics assessments can cater the mix of assessments to your individual situation.    ...read more

Gifts Unseen Ongoing LifeReDesign Lessons

Today I awoke from a long sleep. A sleep that had been ongoing for 51yrs. Today I discovered yet another lane that God would have me travel. At times we experience so many hurts (failures, disappointments, betrayals) but do we really? Have you ever taken the time to look at what appeared to be “hurts” and see what God saw in and through them, probably not. Life is like an ongoing school session. Level to level, glory to glory. For each level we have trials and tribulations, battles we “MUST” go through. Now the question is do we pass, fail or have to take a make-up test? Now I ask which do you think is the worst, failed test or make-up test? With a make-up test you at times multiple attempts to pass. And as you retake them, you should remember where you went wrong and make it through much easier the next time. Which in the end the passing of the make-up test proves to be very profitable in the end. On the other hand a failed test can leave you with mind playing games. So you must be prayerful that we don’t allow the enemies assignment and/or attacks penetrate our armor. For at times what appears to be failures are people, places and things that God wants to remove from our life. So all in the end realize the gift from God: “Grace&Mercy;” following us all the days of our life. Brand new mercies everyday. Him giving us our portion of our daily bread. Having our legion of angels being encamped around about us. Look at the trees, birds and listen to the wind and experience the Gift from God…. Business Etiquette -- What Your Handshake Says About You

Business Etiquette—What Your Handshake Says About You This is the first of a series in using four of the five senses to make a great first impression. When you are meeting someone for the first time, you will be assessed often before you have a chance to say anything. It is important to understand what people see, hear, feel and, yes, even smell impact their first impression of you. All of this information is downloaded in seconds and is not easily erased, if at all.Let’s begin with what people feel. Your handshake – the ultimate greeting.  A strong, powerful handshake is not bone-crushing or overly enthusiastic. It is a firm steady grip and is offered with sincerity, confidence and authority. Anyone who offers a “dead fish”, fingers only, clammy or otherwise wimpy handshake is seen as – wimpy. The two-handed handshake has its place and purpose. The two-handed or “preacher’s” handshake is often used by clergy, politicians, when offering condolences, and greeting the elderly and you want to give a softer handshake. It also has its place when greeting friends. Do not offer such a handshake when greeting for the first time in business. It will diminish your credibility.                       ...read more

Do you own a business or a job?

When I am out speaking to business owners they seem to be asking for business advice in the following areas of time, team, and money.  No matter what type of business it is, the complaints seem to be the same.   I'm working too many hours for what I'm paying myself!    No matter what I do, my margins keep falling!  I can't find good people, I can get it done faster myself. I have no time to work on my business because I'm putting out fires all the time.   I wish I could spend more time with my family.    The problem is that most of the time these business owners don't realize that they don't own a business they just own a job.  Their business is broke because the business is running them instead of them running the business.  This feeling could be very depressing if you don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. At ActionCOACH we believe that it can get better.  No that's not right, we know it can get better because have helped businesses all over the world of all sizes with these issues.   With our 6 Steps to a more profitable business system we teach, coach and mentor business owners to create a commercial, profitable enterprise that can work without them.  This is not a quick fix. We know that by using our proven business strategies you will not only see the light at the end of the tunnel but measurable results within the first 17 weeks of the program, guaranteed! If you are interested in learning more about you can implement these 6 Steps into your business I would like to invite you to attend our next free business seminar.  At this seminar I will be teaching our the ActionCOACH 6 Steps method plus the simple to implement 5 ways formula that our clients use to increase the bottom line of their business. 3 Tips On Become More Productive

Some one once told me to be successful you need to do the most productive thing possible at any given moment.  The only problem with that statement is that most people don't know what their most productive tasks are. I guess you can just create a list of what you need to get done and prioritize that list. The only problem with that strategy is when I used it; my list would seem to grow throughout the day. I would have more on my to-do list to do at the end of the day than when I started. Just working off a list doesn't make you more productive. Here are 3 tips to being more productive… 1. Set Motivating Goals– Without goals there is no way to determine what is productive and what is not. You can't determine what tasks will lead you to what you desire and what tasks will just be wasting your time. The key to being productive is clarity of what you actually want to achieve or produce. You need to continually ask yourself, will this task move me closer to achieving my goals. 2. Create Monthly, Weekly,&Daily; Task buckets– The problem with most task lists is that usually there are too many tasks and not enough time. We tend to be more productive if we have a list of 4-6 items than 25. The more focused we are the more productive we are.       Thefirst step, create a default monthly task list. These are tasks that need to be completed every month. Each month you add any additional tasks that need to be completed that month. These tasks will go into your month task bucket.       Thesecond step, each week look to your monthly bucket list and see what tasks need to be accomplished in the week ahead. Move those tasks from your monthly bucket into your weekly bucket.     Thethird step, each day look at your weekly bucket and see what needs to be accomplished the next     day. Once you have selected your list for the day, determine an estimated time it will take to complete each task that you need to accomplish that day.      If you can't accomplish all your selected tasks that day, determine which task is the least productive and put it back into your weekly or monthly bucket. At the end of each day check to see what has not been accomplished and determine if it needs to go back into the weekly or monthly list or moved to the next day. 3. Don't finish today until you plan for tomorrow– If you wait until the morning to plan your day, you will loose precious time and momentum to start your day. By ending your day knowing what you need to accomplish the next day will allow your subconscious to begin working on solutions and ways to accomplish your tasks faster. If you follow these 3 tips, you will become more effective, more efficient, and more productive. Each week and month you will be able to look back in amazement of how much more you have accomplished with these 3 simple steps. How to work “ON” your business not “IN” your business

Do you feel that you are working to the point of exhaustion in your business and don't feel like you are getting any where? You are not alone. Many business owners suffer from the same business disease of working "in" and not "on" their business.    Most business owners don't know how to break this cycle even if they recognize these symptoms. The first step to fixing a problem is to understand the problem, so let me explain. Most business owners spend a majority of their time working in their business; doing sales&marketing;, invoicing&billing, paying bills, and servicing customers. Then, what ever work they can't do, they hire employees to fill the gap.  Because there is only so much one human being can possibly do, you quickly get burnt out and become less efficient and effective in doing these tasks. This is why you feel like you are working harder and harder but getting no where. Your first step to working "on" the business is having the understanding that as business owner you need to be the leader, not the worker bee. You need to stop doing the work of the business and let the business begin to do the work.  In essence you need to turn your Job that you own into a Business.  As a business owner and leader your task is to develop and serve your team. You serve them by training them; providing them benefits, and holding them accountable to the results you expect of them. You must help them to grow so your business can grow. By inspiring & encouraging your team, they will in turn inspire and serve your customer. They will serve your customers by providing excellent service and being problems solvers. Your team will focus on their customers needs and become their trusted advisors. And finally, your customers will now be inspired to serve your business by buying more products and referring others. This will allow your business to now start serving you the business owner. Start now! Begin by creating and implementing a plan to train and develop your team so they can serve your customers. This will in turn get your customers to start serving your business and finally getting your business to serve you. In this way you will because the master of your business instead of a slave to it. ...read more
