I graduated from Jacksonville Technical High School, June, 1965 and a week later was employed at J. H. Churchwell as a Girl Friday. My boss' first name was Jack, I can't recall his last name. Our desks were out in the open to the right as you came in the front door. My boss was Manager of the dry goods downstairs with an assistance manager. My duties included secretarial work, filling small orders and waiting on customers,I earned minimum wage of $1.25 an hour, $50.00 a week. The typewriter was an old black one, which took some getting used to after the nice Royals and electric IBM at school.At the back of the store, there were stairs going up into enclosed offices. The bookkeeper and other office personal were in these rooms.. The rest of the open area downstairs was dry goods, such as curtains, towels and bedding.
