Surge Suppression for Automatic Gates and Access Controls.
Florida is often described as the lightning capital of the country. Dopler radar is perfect for counting lightning strikes, often totaling several thousand hits per hour. To help protect against damage to sensitive electronics, we highly recommend surge suppression, ground rods and armored/ shielded cable. And all surge protectors are not created equal. Newer technology suppressers clamp at about 1 nanosecond as opposed to older style units that clamp at 8-10 nanoseconds. Also, their clamping voltage is lower. For example, data lines operate on 5vdc. If an old style suppresser is used, it may clamp at 16vdc. This allows enough voltage to sneak through to the data board and potentially damage it. Newer suppressers clamp at 6.8 vdc, protecting the data board much better. This new technology is more expensive, however, if you are protecting a $ 1500.00 telentry board it makes perfect sense to spend $ 100.00 more on the right suppresser.
