That’s Why Dogs are Man’s Best Friend
It is known to be true of dogs that they have a natural instinct of protecting their owners and the children of their owners. Don’t think this is true? This story will prove it to you. A 3-year-old boy by the name of Carson Urness disappeared from his parents’ 10-plus acre home and property on Monday, May 5 in Cooperstown, North Dakota. The family was very worried. They were scared of the boy’s surroundings. Carson’s dad, Brock Urness told ABC News that his wife let their son play outside while she worked inside the home. “She checked on him again at 7:30 pm and he was gone,” Brock said. He continued to say that his wife was attended to their 11-month-old daughter inside while Cason played outside. The Urness family called 911 at 8:30 pm. The local police and fire department got to the Urness home in less than 30 minutes. An aerial and ground search was launched for 3-year-old Carson. 200 neighbors, family members and friends from Cooperstown joined in the search. The Urness’ family dog was missing, too. They have a German Shepherd, Labrador and Golden Retriever mix named Cooper. Brock calls him “mutt.” Around 2:30 am, when officials were just about to call off the search for the night, one last four-wheeler conducted a final search of the property. Luckily, the four-wheeler found Carson about a mile away from the Urness home. He was found in the middle of one of their fields by a pasture. “Carson was in tall grass but when they [the officials’ four-wheeler] shone lights down to sweep it, the dog stuck its head out,” Brock said. Cooper, the Urness family dog protected 3-year-old Carson. Throughout the nearly seven hours that Carson was missing, he was in the care and protection of his pet dog, Cooper. Authorities reported that Carson was found safely under Cooper, who was lying onto of me, giving him coverage and protection from the 40-degree temperatures of that night. The Urness family has no idea that the dog they adopted three years ago that was left on the side of a road nearby a relative’s home would one day save their son’s life. Both the boy and the dog were uninjured. Didn’t that just melt your heart? There you have it. This is a recent event that took place in a small city in North Dakota.
