Group Dining- Merging Social Networks with Reality
During a decade where people are spending copious amounts of time on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Squidoo, many are losing touch with the actualindividuals.Behind these screen-names and avatars are warm-bodies; each coexisting in separate planes: social networks and reality. Group dining is here to close that gap- branching cyberspace with locality. People with similar interests and goals are able to meet in person, and savor a delicious meal with relevant conversation. Eating“local”has become all the craze, as supporting farmers, fishermen and small business-owners are key to a fresh and honest meal. One such social dining website, called Eating With Locals, embraces this concept; bringing people and local eateries together, past the static of our visceral screens. Essentially, the ambition of EWL is for social dining to put thefacesbehind the typists, creating friendships and contacts. Much like a common table, all of EWL's guests are seated together with one host, whose job will be to introduce and engage the event. There will be different themed group dinners for people of all walks of life. Each guest will enjoy a savory prefixed meal from a delicious local restaurant. Generally, these groups will range from 6-10 and will be brought together through various social networks. Each person can dine at their own leisure, or if they really want to divulge, they can accumulate points (based on reviews from other diners, invitations extended to additional guests or number of social dinners attended) which can convert to prizes like free meals. If the experience of the group dining resonates with a guest, they may elect to host their own event, in which case the fixed cost will be up to them. Just as, there are many genres of hobbies and interests, the social dining might have multiple events at any given time. Ultimately, the goal of EWL's group dining is to conjure a one-of-a-kind experience with good food and good people; helping to merge the gap between“face time”and“real time.” ...read more
