August 13, 2014 For More Information, Contact Michael Segal 202/841-0394 Special Event for African Food Entrepreneurs and Their Supporters CAUSES (The College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences) at the University of the District of Columbia is pleased to present a Tasting and Focus Group of Traditional West African Produce. These items, including Gboma, Garden Eggs, Jama Jama, Sawa and more have been grown locally at the University’s Muirkirk Research Farm (MRF) in Maryland. Preparation will be by African and African American chefs. “Many African-born Washingtonians are eager to return to the foods of their youth and to share them with their own children,” states Yao Afantchao, native of Togo and Director of the MRF. “For food distributors, store owners, restaurants, and farmers, local availability of this produce represents a great business opportunity.” The tasting will take place at 5:00 PM on August 21 at the UDC's cafeteria, 4200 Connecticut Avenue.
