CREATE YOUR OWN CURB APPEAL!

We've all been warned not to judge a book by its cover but ... consumers do anyway.  Well-chosen improvements can draw buyers into the home and add value.  Both the facade and yard should say,"This house is loved." Touch up Painted Surfaces. Remove peeling paint and repaint the affected areas.Perk up a Front Porch.  Add large seasonal flowers in big pots, planted window boxes, a new welcome mat, and some comfy furniture or clean the upholstery of the current.  Repaint or stain worn wooded floorboards in a color that complements the facade and door.Make Windows Sparkle.  Use garden hose to wet outside windows before washing; it helps loosen dirt.  Second or third-story windows may need professional help.Clean Dirty Masonry.  Use a nylon brush and avoid cleansers that damage color and finish.Paint Gutters to Match Trim.  Be sure to get an enamel paint that will adhere to metal.Illuminate Exterior.  Too many lights make a walkway look like an airport runway.  But a home should look safe and attractive.Tidy Landscaping.  Remove dead trees and leaves, prune overgrown shrubs, edge beds, and plant seasonal flowers.*Most ImportantlyaFront Doorshould be clearly visible since it's the entry and focal point for prospects.  A polished knocker adds cachet. That this is a tough home market is not new news.  Getting back to basics and paying attention to the details of cleaning, repairing, replacing and refreshing your home, may be all that's needed to take a home from a questionable "clunker" to a sought-after classic.Need more ideas to improve the value of your home?  When you're ready for real estate help, give me a call ... I can help bring the buyers to your door._______________________________________________________________________________________*Source: Barbara Ballinger -www.Realtor.org ...read more
