A few thoughts on CDs. An article in the newspaper this past summer (ah, summer - we have received over 70 inches of snow since early December) noted that libraries loan more CDs/DVDs per week than Netflix sends out in the mail. Now that Netflix is moving towards downloads, the libraries will increase the spread. An article last week noted that Compact Disc sales/production have dropped over the past few years, due to the increase of download services such as iTunes...I do love iTunes. Digital downloads exceeded 117 million. Lots of people are downloading....many more are not, yet. We're here to help those still using discs. The article also noted that in 2010, BluRay sales exceeded 76 million, Video games exceeded 356 million, DVDs 644 million and CDs over 239 million...there are alot of compact discs out there in circulation.....over 1.2 BILLION discs sold last year. If you think about CD (DVD, CD, video game) production and sales over the past decade, 10 billion is a low estimate. Sure, sales are down over the past 5 years.....there are still alot of discs being used. Over the years, how many of those discs have ended up in the trash, either going to a landfill or incinerated? Too many! CDs cannot be shredded or melted down, and recycled like other plastics. How many are still being used? How many scratched CDs are sitting on your shelf, waiting to be repaired. We are here to help. We can keep your music CDs, lecture/inspirational CDs, DVDs, Workout videos, Video Games playing for you. Rather than repurchase, copy and/or throw away, your discs can be saved. Think about the money spent purchasing these products and about the number of discs thrown away. For a few dollars per disc, we can repair them and keep them playing or make them useable for someone else - either as a gift, donation or sale via Craig's List, yardsale, etc. We want to help you, your family, friends, help your library, your church, school or local hospital where there may be discs on loan...and many are returned scratched and unuseable. We were going to advertise with Groupon and were told that our demographic wasn't a fit. I'm not sure why, as our customers include many of you. You can benefit from our service or have a friend in need of our service - let them know about us: Your local library.
