Many of you have heard the news on real estate today. They are not exagerating. Much of what has been said on the news and in new columns is correct. The high rate of foreclosures is turning real estate in a spin. Mostly, this has been caused by the high number of adjustable rate interest loans with interest rates that are on the rise; thus raising their monthly payments. The responsibility for the high foreclosure rate has been blamed on the mortgage companies. This is true to a certain extent, but the public has some responsibility also. Everyone should know what they are getting into before they sign up for such programs. But, most of the public goes along with whatever is presented to them. They are not educated in the mortgage world, so they sign up for anything that can give them what they want; home ownership. That is also understandable. The third piece of this puzzle are the real estate agents. They do understand the mortgage world and even though they are not directly invloved in the mortgage, they should discuss with their buyers the details of what each mortgage product entails; that is, if the buyers choose to discuss the details with them. Even so, I bring up mortgage subjects, that in my opinion, are not desirable for most home buyers. From there, at lease I have planted a seed and the buyers can then make an informed decision about the mortgage product they are contemplating and be somewht educated on what quetions they should be asking.
