Albion's increased web presence

Ewan and his wife (the writer of this post) have tried hard to avoid temptations to modernize.  Ewan is proud that the family's main phone is a dial phone.  But Ewan finally broke down and actually got a cell phone for the Oshkosh trip, and now Albion even has a blog!  How often it will be updated remains to be seen, as the writer's day job involves raising and teaching three boys 5 and under.  But current trends in the construction and print industries mean a lot of shops like Albion have gone out of business in the last couple years.  So it made sense to find ways to let the former customers of those shops know that yes, there is still a place in south Denver offering inexpensive wide-format copies for the construction industry.  It's not easy to contact the customers, since most of them are small contractors who just need a few pages copied now and then, or homeowners who need a lot of copies, but only once, and there is no single generally-accepted term to describe construction plans, architectural drawings, engineering plans, etc.  The one word everybody knows is "blueprints" but except for old plans, there aren't blueprints anymore; everything is black and white.  So if you know anyone who might appreciate cheaper prices and better service than at the well-known copy shops, please let them know about Albion. ...read more

Albion Repro & Graphics at Oshkosh airshow

Actually it wasn't the company as such at the airshow.  Ewan's side business is aviation art, and Oshkosh (THE airshow to go to) seemed like a great place to find people interested in his art.  Ewan has done some art for the Vintage Aero Flying Museum in Hudson, Colorado, and when they invited him to volunteer at their booth, it was a dream come true to help with their WWI replica airplanes and on-the-road museum.  During Ewan's absence, Mark Johnson, who is now a mature 16 years old, manned the reprographics business which he watched for two weeks last year at the tender age of 15 and impressed the customers.  Meanwhile, Ewan had a great time, talking to DC-3 pilots and Udvar-Hazy museum employees and people from Australia and Germany, and wishing his father was there to see him helping push one of the WWI fighters out to the taxiway.  He got lots of compliments on his art, and made some new contacts.  And why should reprographics customers care?  Well, some also are aviation enthusiasts, but all of Albion's customers can appreciate that this is a difficult time for the construction industry, the printing industry, and especially for print shops supporting the construction industry.  Aviation art and other graphics jobs help Ewan keep the shop open for his loyal customers who appreciate a print shop for construction plans in downtown Littleton. ...read more
