Ballet and jazz are very similar in their technical requirements. Posture and body alignment are quite similar; they even have many cross-over steps. However, ballet is a classical dance forms rooted in history and developed and refined for several hundred years. It emphasizes movement quality and story-telling with beautiful lines and emotional content. Jazz is a more contemporary dance style rooted in the classical technique, but expressing the ever-changing music scene of each generation.
