Google's new thing - Getting American Business Online (GABO)

What is Google up to now?Google has a new campaign in the works calledGetting AmericanBusinessOnlineor "GABO". Google is using Intuit (Homestead prior to 2008) to offer free 3 page websites with a domain. Both companies officially started a soft launch July 18th 2011 meaning they are out to get a feel for who will be signing up, how people will be reacting to the service, and how many calls and new customers will be driven towards Intuit and it's call centers (located in Englewood, CO and Fredericksburg, VA and Menlo Park, CA). They started out with a face to face, people, approach in a city in Texas which I can not disclose. The 3 page site and domain is free for only a year, in which time the GABO customer's are offered no phone support from Intuit unless upgrading to what's being called the Business Lite Package at around $7.99 a month. Google plans to... What Google plans to do and take away form this. Google saw about 1500 sign ups (new customers) from its first "trade show" type event in Texas for these free websites. People did need to however offer up a credit card number and associated information. This is one, to help against fraud seeing as how personal information is required for a domain registry, and two, to pay the dollar monthly cost for domain privacy if it was requested. Either way, you had to give this information out to get the account. There really is another third reason but its a bit touchy. Well, okay here it is. When you call in for any questions to Intuit, the provider of the website and CMS program called (Site Builder Plus) you would be helped, but also advised of no phone support without upgrading to at least a $7.99 monthly package plan! There you have it. The word spread fast in Texas of being able to have a free website directly from Google them selves! There was even a small radio station that broadcasted the message as well as ads on Facebook. One of the genius marketing techniques used by Google was that no one could sign up for one of these accounts, without A, being at the event face to face with "Googlers" and Intuit reps, or B, word of mouth! Intuit is used to supporting customers whom have very little website, or even computer, experience for that matter. There was (and IS) a special technique being used to track all calls that are coming in from these new GABO accounts. So far, it is seen that most of the targeted audience of Google's campaign seem to be people whom indeed know there way around a computer. Which is good news for not only Intuit's IWA's (Intuit Web Advisers, whom again, may be used to having to explain how to "right click") but also Google as it works hard to win back the trust of the American people. There is also some government funding involved and other politics going on behind the scenes that I sadly can not disclose here.
