Head-Lamp lenses are made of a polycarbonate material and over a period of time can become weathered and lose their clarity. This can result in not only poor aesthetics but a potentially dangerous situation while driving at night. On average a replacement head-lamp lens can cost between $90 to $200 dollars. OEM parts from the dealer can cost even more. My Ford Taurus part lists $160.00 to $190.00; just for the part. If you are a do-it-yourselfer then there may not be any other cost however if you are paying a mechanic then labor rates can be $90 to $120 per hour. Are the numbers adding up now? If you're a do-it-yourselfer and have the equipment to repair the lens yourself then you could save some money, comparatively speaking. The equipment needed would be a rotary buffer, a buffing wheel, buffing compound and two kinds of fine grit wet-sand paper and cost upwards of $100 dollars. While this is great equipment to own, if you are buying it for the sole purpose of repairing one head-lamp lens, it may not be advantageous.
