Live Escape Game: Hottest New Trend Hits Denver In An Epic Way.

Denver, Colorado – January 15, 2015 - You are in a locked room and you have only 60 minutes to find your way out by finding clues, solving puzzles and locating the final key code to open the door. This is not a nightmare, but one of the hottest new trends that is sweeping the nation. Located just minutes from downtown Denver, (1750 Gilpin Street, Denver, CO, 80218) Epic Escape Game is a live interactive escape game where the concept is simple: Players are locked in a room and must use their wits, problem-solving skills and teamwork to uncover clues, solve a series of puzzles and crack codes to ultimately find the key to escape the room. Escape rooms started in Asia the 1980’s as a video game and grew to a top downloadable app. Its popularity continued to grow as operators took the game concept from an individual video game experience to a live group experience. Live escape games rapidly spread to major tourist destinations in Asia, Europe, Australia and South America. It is now one of the fastest growing concepts in the U.S. appearing in New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami, Washington DC and now Denver. Epic Escape Game offers five uniquely themed escape rooms to choose from and each room accommodates up to eight players. In their “Dorm of the Dead” room, you are a college student and your dorm room has been overrun with zombies. You must find the antidote cure in order to escape your dorm before you become zombie lunch. In one of their more challenging rooms, “Pikes Peak or Bust: Colorado’s Gold Rush” players are following in the footsteps of famous miner, Green Russell, by being locked in a miner’s cabin where they must put on their thinking caps and search around the room to find hidden clues that lead to a series of clever puzzles to the final exit. Another room, “The Grand Theater presenting: The Mustache Thief” will not only challenge your mental mettle it will also engage all of your senses: taste, smell, hearing, touch and sight. With this fully interactive experience you are no longer just watching the action, you are IN THE ACTION. There is also a moderately challenging room that plays on the paranormal. The premise of “The Other Side” room is that you’ve been in an accident and are now lingering between here and the other side. You must decipher codes and retrace your steps to escape the other side. Escape Games are great for families as well. Epic Escape Game’s “Toys in the Attic” is the easiest room to escape and is geared to families with younger children. This is a great way for families to interact with their children in a fun and positive way. Live Escape Games are not only a great alternative form of entertainment for couples, families and friends but are also catching the attention of local businesses, schools and groups, who use this concept for team-building, private parties and events. Admission per person is $24.95 weekdays and $27.95 on the weekends. Epic Escape Game is open seven days a week from 10am – 9:30pm Sunday through Thursday and 10am – 11pm Friday and Saturday. They are located at 1750 Gilpin Street, Denver, CO 80218. To book a game, visit their website at www.epicescapegame.com or call their office at (303) 377-6060. ...read more

Hertiage Square Kids Magic with Chad Wonder

I started to build my Heritage Square family and kids summer magic show "Unbelievable," I spent maybe 30 to 40 hours working out what I would perform, what patter I might use and how I could link the stories together. It's three different 15 to 17 minute shows with one illusion and a few parlor tricks. After 2 days of live rehearsals with my assistant, I've scrubbed a ton of what I developed because our natural chemistry created more organic moments. This is the first time I have ever used an assistant in a show and it was interesting for me to see this happen. We have another 2 weeks of rehearsals so I am excited to see how this goes! The soft opening is Memorial day weekend where I will do a more Memorial day themed show. The new illusion shows begin in mid June. ...read more

Al Lampkin inspires Chad Wonder

I had the pleasure of attending a lecture by Al Lampkin hosted by the Mile High Magicians Society. Although most of the material Al covered was better performed for adults, a couple of points he made about kids birthday parties really hit home for me. It was nice to have an affirmation of what I do. Point one. Don't smack the birthday kids in the face with gotcha' magic tricks. I perform a few sucker tricks and his remark really made me think about how I end those tricks. Do I end the trick by telling the kids "hey, you're wrong (hence not very smart)" or do I make it magical? Fortunately, my endings make it magical and comical and enhance the party. Point two. Use what birthday magic works. There is nothing wrong with performing the same show for years on end. That was great to hear considering my magic show is now 20+ years old, at least the core of it. Sure, I add in a new thing every year or so, but the core always remains the same. When I emailed Al after the lecture thanking him and letting him know how old my show as, he let me know his show was twice that old. ...read more

Thursday night performance

This Thursday the Mile High Magicians will be performing a show for the residents at the retirement center where we meet. I have a new magic routine I am going to perform, contrary to the rule of thumb... never try something new on a real audience. So why am I doing this? Well, I have a few of thoughts; First, I've practiced it quite a bit and feel comfortable with the routine. Second, I am performing to music which helps me to pace much better. Finally, I have been doing magic for 27 years. Although I will be the first to admit I am not perfect, I do know how to entertain. I would never recommend any of my students be this brave or perhaps... crazy. ...read more

6 weeks?

Your Denver magician has been busy. I was surprised when I logged and realized it's been six weeks since my last magical update. I've been averaging almost 4 shows a weekend, thank you Denver! Since I make my living doing kids magic birthday parties, it really makes a difference in my life when I'm busy. It sure makes me miss my own kids on the weekend, but I spend a lot of time with them during the week. We have panned a vacation for the end of the school year, it'll be fun to get away for a week. Gizmo the clown has a healed pinkie finger. That means he can go out on birthdays again, he is really excited. He is gearing up to take lessons from a local balloon tying legend, or at least we hope. ...read more

This facility closed because the lessee (aka - proprietor), was unable to make the lease/rent payments. I was hired as the piano/keyboard, and improv teacher, about 2 months before it "folded". It's too bad, because it was a NICE FACILITY w/several spacious teaching studios, sound-proof rehearsal rooms, and a recording studio. Rick, the drum teacher, and "2nd in command" (vice presidentjQuery17107123922279570252_1339336898185) was great. In fact, he was responsible for my acquiring the several students I taught at that location. He seemed straight forward. In fact, he even called me the week before they closed, to tell me what was up. However, something about the owner was "amiss". First of all , he was hard to reach, slow to respond--if at all. We're ALL busy, but communication, esp. new hire/owner, shouldn't . Second, he'd often say, or agree to something, but wouldn't follow through. Frequent "lip service", will quickly place one's credibility under fire. ...read more
