Denver is a beautiful place to live, and it's no wonder that the city has grown so much since our company was founded in 1965. With our great weather, comfortable (albeit dry) climate, and proximity to some of the most beautiful scenery in the United States, Denver is a great place to settle down and buy a home. Of course, whenever you buy a home you want to hire anexperienced Denver-area home inspectorwho can check your new property for potential problems, damage, and other concerns...but not all home inspectors are the same. The State of Colorado does not require home inspectors to have any formal training or license, which is unfortunate because many areas of Denver have problems with ground movement – commonly known as settling and swelling. Without getting too detailed, the soil below many of the communities in the Denver area is expansive (bentonite). This expansive soil has the potential to expand and contract when ground moisture levels change – something that can happen seasonally. When moisture levels change, the ground begins to “move” in relation to the expansion or contraction of the soil. When this movement occurs, structural damage can occur. As any Denver real estate agent can tell you, there are thousands of homes across the metro area with structural issues. In fact, some Denver communities are notorious for having homes with broken and cracked driveways, sidewalks, porches, and unfortunately,even broken and cracked foundations. For all of these reasons, it'scriticalto have a licensed, professional engineer inspect the structure of your next home. While home builders have known about Denver's “soil problems” for decades, many of them have not taken the necessary precautions to prevent the possibility of structural damage. ADT Monitored Home Security is the best investment I ever made. I live in a gated neighborhood and lock my doors and windows, so I always thought I was safe.
