Enjoy Your Dog This Summer Outdoors!
Mention going Bye-Bye to a dog and what happens?Tails usually start wagging, happy eyes are bright and then a lot of dancing around. A walk in the park, the fresh air, exercise, and socializing are great for your pooch. To keep these outings safe and fun for everyone, ask yourself a couple of questions before bounding out the door: Are your dog's vaccinations up to date? This helps reduce the chance of picking up any illnesses from other dogs on the playground. Flea collars or some of the products like Front Line Flea & Ticks help too. Are you confident about your dog's training?Dog parks can be hectic places. But knowing that your pet will respond to your voice commands, even while playing with other dogs, will make it a more relaxing outing. Wouldn't it be nice if puppy training wasn't so focused on reprimanding?Try positive reinforcement. It works by giving rewards for behaviors you want rather than punishments for those you don't. A few suggestions for making this work: Be prompt.Reward your pet immediately, so they knows what they did right. Be consistent.Always use the same command for the same behavior. Be flexible. For more complicated tricks, reward your dog for coming close to the desired behavior, so they know they're on the right track. Be patient. At first, you'll need to reward with treats every time, and then gradually move toward using verbal praise like "Good girl!" and "Good boy!" with a good pet or hug will be enough to keep them obeying. You and your dog will love going bye bye to the park, in the car, and to friends and family's homes together when good behavior is welcomed no matter where you go. ...read more
